Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs

I use the alert feature in my apps at the end of many xbasic functions to let the user know that the function completed successfully or to provide an error message.

Often, I also add some other code to refresh the page or perform some other action.

But problems occur when the user accidentally clicks the checkbox to prevent further popups from the app.

If they do that, the javascript code included with the alert no longer runs.

Has anyone else seen this problem and how do you handle it?

A5.msgBox.show() makes for much nicer messaging.

I've taken to more and more window-type containers as well for user interaction - even the simplest of them.

Fading messages are also pretty handy.

Will a5.msgBox.show() also stop any scripts from processing?

Some of the alerts keep actions from moving forward (like opening another tab or window) until they are clicked.

I read the description of it, and it seems like it must stop the scripts since you can put checks for the button press afterwards.

No, this doesn't stop anything from executing.

If all you're looking to do is notify the user something is done, just make sure you produce it the end to be accurate. For instance, your callback might be:

function mycallback as c (e as p)

   . . . xbasic processing code in here
   js = "A5.msgBox.show('Processing', 'Complete', 'o');  "
   mycallback = js

end function

You can use the additional buttons and their follow-on events as shown in the documentation to chain things together, where you might ask the user for some response and then call some appropriate action (or not) depending on the response.

You can use it as a "wait" message as well. On the same button a callback is made, add:

A5.msgBox.show('Processing', 'Please wait', 'o');

and then at the end of your callback issue

. . .
js = "A5.msgBox.hide();"
mycallback = js

And also remember that the message is/can be any html you want -- I have a couple "templates" for larger projects that set a div, background and logo for more polish.

As Steve stated, A5.msgBox does not stop the execution of scripts. You can use the onClose function parameter to run additional code (such as refresh the page) when user closes the message box.
