Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Thank you very much Steve! I'll drop that into the xbasic in the morning and see how it goes. The SYSTEM list will never have a single quote so that won't be an issue and the total number of records should never exceed about 750 so that shouldn't be an issue either. Thanks again for the quick response!

    You can process the selected List values with a few statements and then use the SQL IN clause to pull all the rows...

    Code:
    dim listCSV as c
    listCSV =  e.dataSubmitted.List1.dump()
    listCSV = crlf_to_comma(listCSV)

    args.set("listIds",listCSV)

    sql = "SELECT Customer_ID FROM tblCustomers WHERE Customer_ID IN (:listIds)"
    This dumps the array of selected List Ids into a CRLF delimited string.
    Then change the CRLF to Commas... as you'll all set for the IN clause.

    Use args.sets instead of args.add... it's a bit better.
    Edit: Cleaned up a bit... didn't need all that code.

    There are a few ways to do this; here's one. Dump the array to a string with the values quoted, separated by commas, and use that in the query:

    Code:
    result = e.dataSubmitted.SYSTEMS.dump()
    resultstring = ""
    for each row in result
    	*concat(resultstring, "'" + row.value + "',")
    next
    resultstring = strip_trailing_char(resultstring, ",")

    sql="SELECT PendingTotal AS value FROM view_dashboard_punch_MG_construction WHERE System IN(" + resultstring + ")"
    This doesn't use an argument, and that's OK, though you can also arrange it so.
    This also assumes the return values do not have a single-quote mark in them -- that would need to be handled.

    I've found that the IN() clause can handle a fairly large number of choices, so this should work.

    If it doesn't and the number of values in the IN() clause are too large, then you might consider dumping the values into a table (temp tables are great!) and creating a join.

  • Help on using a multiselect list to filter a MySQL query in xbasic

    I am trying to use a multi-select list to gather records that will be utilized in an ajax callback to the server and passed in via the e. argument and then be incorporated into a MySQL query filter. I have everything working except for the last part. I'm not sure how to format the lists data and incorporate it into the query. I have included some of the code below for reference.

    filter1 collects the 'SYSTEMS' list values from the user making their selections. An example of what is passed in the ajax callback for e.dataSubmitted.SYSTEMS is this:
    [3] : { {101-PTA} , {1201-PET} , {1508-PTA} }
    The info above is only showing 3 records but it could be 1 or hundreds. The results are processed as JSON and utilized in a FusionChart. That part works as well.

    I realize that I can't just plug 'filt1' in the query like that. I was just using that as a placeholder until I figured out what should really go there.

    Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Code:
    flag=cn.open("::Name::trackerdb")

    filter1 = e.dataSubmitted.SYSTEMS

    sql="SELECT PendingTotal AS value FROM view_dashboard_punch_MG_construction WHERE System=:filt1"
    args.add("filt1",filter1)
    flag=cn.execute(sql,args)
    rs=cn.ResultSet
    pp=rs.ToJSONObjectSyntax()
    pp=stritran(pp,crlf(),",")
    session.a_PendingData = pp
Working...
