Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email From issue

    I am sending emails using email_send2 on a particular project.

    No matter what I set the email_from parameter to, it ALWAYS says it is coming from the same email address. The from name is correct, but the from_email is not.

    Even if I hard set it just before I send the email it always defaults back to the same sending address.

    It only happens in one project. I have plenty of other projects and I've never seen this before.

    I have looked in the email settings of the project properties and every other place I can think of to fix this.

    If I send just a test message from the server email settings it works fine, so I know it is an issue in the project.

    Ideas on where to look?

        Here is the xbasic code I am using for the test. (Email addresses have been edited to protect the innocent from spam.)

        the code works an sends every time. Not that I am setting the from_email parameter, but that is not what it ends up with.

        When you receive the email, in the "from" you see:

        Green Light [[email protected]]; on behalf of; Larry Grupido [[email protected]]

        Code:
        function Send_Reminder as c (e as p)

        '==CONNECTION AND VARS

        dim cn as SQL::Connection
        cn.open("::name::mysql")

        ' debug(1)

        vFrom_Name	= "Larry Grupido"
        vFrom_Email	= "[email protected]"
        vSubject	= "this is a test-3"
        vMessage = "This is a test"
        vTo 	= "[email protected]"
        vCC 	= "[email protected]"
        vBCC 	= "[email protected]"

        dim pm as p
        pm.From     = vFrom_Email
        pm.From_Alias     = vFrom_Name
        pm.To 		= vTo
        pm.CC 		= vCC
        pm.BCC 		= vBCC
        pm.subject 	= vSubject
        pm.HTML_message = VMessage
        vStatus = "Email not sent - please check that all fields are filled in properly."

        if vMessage > "" .and. vSubject > "" .and. vTo > "" .and. vFrom_Email > "" then
        	flagResult = email_send2(pm,"Test",.t.,.f.,.f.)
        	vStatus = "Success"
        	IF flagResult = .f. THEN
        		vStatus = "There was a problem sending the email."
        	END IF
        end if

        cn.close()

        Send_Reminder = "alert('"+vStatus+"');"

        end function

            The line

            flagResult = email_send2(pm,"Test",.t.,.f.,.f.)

            it telling Alpha to use the "Test" email profile.

            Try it as

            flagResult = email_send2(pm,"",.t.,.f.,.f.)

              That is how it started out.

              I created the test email profile to see if creating a new profile would make a difference. It didn't.

              I have tried it as "", "Default" and "Test". ("Default" is the name of the regular profile.)

              They all do the same thing.

                  So ..

                  I changed the test email setting to use a completely different email account. (I set it up with my personal email.)

                  And with that new account it operates properly.

                  So there is something in particular stuck on that account. I don't understand, though, why it works properly when using the server to send a test message in the setup.

                  Unless ...

                  I'm going to set the from address to be the exact same as the account address. I was using another address on the same domain, but maybe it doesn't like any deviation from the account at all in the from ...

                  I'll write back in a moment!

                    Issue Solved! (Sort of)

                    The server won't allow email aliases, even if the alias is from the same domain. It still sends the email, but it is doing that weird change the from email address thing.

                    Why it decided on Darla's address as the default, I have no idea.

                    FYI: This is a gmail server. There may be a configuration setting I'm missing.

                    Anyone else using gmail and have this issue?

                          I'm not seeing an issue here. I ran your code and all is ok.

                          The "on behalf of" stuff is worrying. I wonder if your email or system has been hacked, spoofed, whatever it's called. When I get incoming mail containing "on behalf of" I know something is wrong somewhere.

                          I also just changed my Alpha Email settings to use my GMail account... and used a from email address of [email protected]. I got my email without any odd stuff in it.

                              I don't know how their email is setup, exactly.

                              I believe it is a gmail account for business. They run their entire domain through it.

                              That's going to be something to look at next week ...
