Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    problem with lookup control

    There seems to be a limit to the width in a textbox set as a lookup. No matter what width I set for the control the control shows only 12 characters. Anyone have a solution to this?

    I'm not seeing this. You've not posted what Type your Lookup is or how it's defined or your Alpha build/version, but as Auto-Suggest I can type in more than 12 characters. As an Edit-Combo List the dropdown expands to the maximum of the longest item in the dropdown list. Which part are you having trouble with and how is it, and the control, defined?

      Ok David here are some more details.

      It is an edit combo. The dropdown portion displays all of the text, however, when an item is selected and the dropdown closes the textbox only displays a portion of the item selected.

        When I inspect the element I see that the size is set to 20 and the width set to 100 which is the number of characters showing. How do I change the size and width properties?

          Thanks for the additional info. I'm still not seeing this. However, I can't replicate what you're attachments are showing. How is your dropdown section wrapping? Mine simply expands. What Style are you using. What Alpha version/build?

            Ok... let's get some info not yet divulged. You're in a Tabbed UI. Are you running a Grid or a UX?

              After more inspecting I think this is a bug. I don't see anyway to change those 2 properties. If I change them in the developers tools the full text is displayed.

                A UX in a Tabbed UI. With the latest non pre-release. It is an a container with several other controls. I have a few of these in different parts of my ux and they all exhibit the same behavior.

                  Re: problem with lookup control

                  It looks like if I just change the width in the developer tools. The entire name shows. It is not using the width that I have in the width property of the control.

                  I found a work around for now. I'm still not sure if it a bug.

                  If I use this in the onInitializeComplete Client-Side event.
                  Code:
                  $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.VNAME_VTV').style.width="280px";

                    Re: problem with lookup control

                    I think there's a lot going on here so a simple sample TabbedUI with a UX is needed. There's so much that can affect this stuff... and now there's a container involved. Set up a sample Tabbed UI and build a UX for it with a TextBox using just Static data. Make sure you put everything else in... e.g. the Container.

                    From what I can see, you may have added something that is affecting your TextBox Lookup. I'm not seeing width issues in my tests.

                        Re: problem with lookup control

                        I sent this in as a bug report.
                        All of the textbox controls set to dynamic Edit-combo have a fixed width of 100px and a size of 20 no matter what I set the width to in the style property.

                        this is what I get when I examine the element with the internet explorer developer tools I get this:
                        Code:
                        <input name="V.R1.TEXTBOX1" class="GrGrayEditBGEdit" id="DLG1.V.R1.TEXTBOX1" style="[COLOR="#FF0000"]width: 100px[/COLOR]; box-sizing: border-box; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; -ms-box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-box-sizing: border-box;" size="20" value="" autocomplete="off" A5ControlBound="true" A5IsDirty="false">
                        If I look at the xbaxic in design mode I see this line:
                        Code:
                        <input      id="{dialog.componentname}.V.R{dialog.rownumber}.TEXTBOX1" name="V.R{grid.rownumber}.TEXTBOX1"  value=""  autocomplete="off"   size="20" class="[theme:editButtonGroup.base.container.editClassName|class.editButtonGroupEdit]" style="[COLOR="#FF0000"]width: 100px;[/COLOR] ; box-sizing: border-box; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; -ms-box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-box-sizing: border-box;" />

                        The size and width seem to be hard coded somewhere.

                        When I examine an older ux that has not been saved with the most recent candidate the width property is set to 100% not 100 px.
                        If I use this in the onInitializeComplete Client-Side event.
                        Code:
                        $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.VNAME_VTV').style.[COLOR="#FF0000"]width="100%[/COLOR]";
                        The control respects the width setting in the controls style property.

                              you have shown the result, and the edit combo definition, sample edit combo how it looks like, stationary and on the screencast, the letters are the last of the data that is visible. if scroll to the left of the edit combo i am sure you can see the rest of the letters.
                              would you be willing to show the text box definition in the ux builder, ( obviously i cannot test your component) where you set the style.
