Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • List control not scrolling in mobile browsers

Hello. I tried using an edit-combo box on a UX to present users with a dynamic list of choices in a web-based app. Since they can enter a new value in the input field or select from the list, I thought the edit-combo would work just fine. However, in mobile browsers I don't like how the keyboard pops up whenever the input field gets focus, even when the user presses the dropdown arrow on the input field. At that point, the mobile keyboard comes up, covers part of the list of choices and the user needs to close the keyboard before continuing to scroll through the list and make a selection, if that's what they want to do.

As an alternative, I removed the edit-combo box and populated the UX with a list control in its place. I display and hide it using an in-control button on the input field. It works perfectly as far as allowing the user to type directly into the input field or bring up the list of choices and select from it. On all desktop browsers, a vertical scroll bar appears, which is great. However, on mobile browsers, I can't get the list to scroll at all. No drag scrolling, no scroll bar. That leaves the user to only choose from the visible items in the list. Other than that, it works fine and I much prefer the way the list approach looks and feels from a user interface standpoint on a mobile device.

Any ideas on what I might try to get the list to scroll in mobile browsers? Not sure what other info you might need from me.

Also, as a related item, when I hide (client-side) the list after the user makes a choice, it works perfectly on the desktop under Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Safari. However, on IE V11 (Win8) and MS Edge (Win10), a bottom horizontal scroll bar is left showing after the {dialog.object}.setControlDisplay('list1',false) command is executed. There is no horizontal scroll bar in my list at any other time. Again, any thoughts on why this might be happening? Also, this bottom scroll bar does not appear on any mobile browsers when the control is hidden, only in IE and Edge on the desktop.

Thanks for any help you can offer on this!

How is your List control configured? Is this a web app running in a browser on a mobile device... or a PhoneGap Build app?

David, thanks for your reply. This is a web app running in a browser on a mobile device, not a PhoneGap build at this point. The input field and accompanying list sit inside a generic centered container which is inside a flex layout container.

That sounds just complicated enough to need a sample to look at. Could you post one?

Thanks again, David. In playing around with it some more, I found that I needed to change the "Drag Scroll Direction" property for the list from "None" to "Y-axis". It wasn't necessary to do that in order for the vertical scroll bar to appear on the desktop browsers but it seems the mobile browsers won't scroll the list unless that property is indicated. I appreciate you responding to my request!
