Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Feature Request - Paste From Word in HTML Editor

Many online forms now offer a "paste from word" feature.

This feature strips out the extra word characters and leaves just basic formatting.

I am wondering what it would take to add such a feature into the default Alpha HTML editor.

OR, if someone could recommend an HTML editor that easily replaces the Alpha editor and also has this feature.

    Puretext?

    There can be only one.

      Puretext is a separate program.

Maybe if it had an api or something.

I need something more transparent than that. Something I can incorporate directly into a UX.

Have you looked at the *html_to_text Function? or the *RTF_TO_HTML Function?

What I want is a Word to HTML function.

Look, I have customers (teachers) who are sending emails out through my application.

They develop flyers in Word that they send home with their students for the parents.

They want to also send the same information out via email to the parents because the students are unreliable.

They want the document to go out relatively the same as they have it in Word. I don't need to explain to you that cutting and pasting from Word to the internet has it's issues - I'm just looking for the best solution to get around those issues.

At the same time, I want as much of the formatting to stay the same as is possible.

Not all of the teachers are tech savvy, so it has to be transparent and simple.

CKEditor does a pretty good job - it has a Paste from Word feature. See AlphaToGo or the IADN store - Steve Wood has what you need to get started/integrated.

Yes, that DOES do a pretty good job.

I'll have to test it some more, but I think I can make that work. It's at least better than what I've got now!

can they not save the document for web in word and attach that document to the email?

                edit:
once they created the flyer they can save it in word format then save as web format (html)
they have two files, print one and attach one.
                not that hard.

They CAN do a lot of things - but that requires training.

This is a tool that we provide and there is only so much we can do.

If I was wanting to solve this issue I would simply ask the staff to save the documents as a pdf, allow them to upload then to Alpha, then distribute using PDF attachments in the AA Emails.

So, I am using CKEditor now and it works great.

Teaching people to use the paste from word function is easy enough and it seems to clear all the junk out that can screw up the formatting of an email.

I highly recommend it if you have to do online editing in Alpha.

All attachments maybe a problem in emails because it may look like the email is from trusted source but in fact it is not. Same problem is with links in emails.

As a parent, dealing with portals like this I think an attachment as a word doc would be acceptable, at least to me but in the end like you said it has to work for your users. A PDF would be just as good, but would put the work back on the teacher who is creating in word and in my case my kid (student) wants to download edit and upload their homework as done.
