Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

So what I have found that I have to do is put the date control into a container and set its width. That certainly does not seem like that is the way you should have to set the date control's width.

Re: with layout type set to container I can't set the width of date controls

since i do not have version 12 i won't be able to check this out obviously.
i see all the other controls seem to have exact width. so question is
did you set that width to some number?
if yes then you can set the date control to the same width using the set property to control on the top and see if it works.

if the answer is no then i will remove all the width properties in the date and see if it works.

( i see you have style, width and container inline style - all of them probably not necessary. when you set width and style width, the style width will be ignored so no need, container width includes the datepicker and the date field, not necessary when the size is adequate for both of them, but the above does not explain when you have set container style width: 100px, the control extends to that size. there must be something else interfering.)

here is one done in version 11 with only width set at 5in for all controls.

Re: with layout type set to container I can't set the width of date controls

Thanks gandhi, I only set all of those properties to 100px to show that none are having an effect.
What I have found is that the date control only acts this way when it is in a freeform container. All of the other controls respect their width property settings inside the freeform container. When I move the date control out of the freeform container it respects the width setting.
I have to decide if I want to redo these forms without a freeform container or just set the <td> tag's width property inside the freeform container. I did not have this issue when I had the ux's layout type set to control width.

okay now that you explain that the date is in freeform here is the image with that setting
          https://www.screencast.com/t/jCWEPzdYQyA9
          how to correct that
          freeform definition
          <div id="d" style="width:5in">{d}</div>
          https://www.screencast.com/t/iPRwB49v9L

same as placing a container, i would imagine. the way you did. the freeform is interfering.

Re: with layout type set to container I can't set the width of date controls

or go to the freeform style and add width:100px there, you don't have to enclose it in a container or use div in the freeform html.

Re: with layout type set to container I can't set the width of date controls

Thanks again for your help gandhi. I am trying to set the width of the individual date control. So what I have done is set the width of the <td> tag that contains the date control. I have set all of the controls up in a table that is in the freeform control. That is working OK for now. I am going to submit this as a bug.. at the risk of being yelled at. I see no reason why the only control that has this problem is a date control. I understand that it is a different control than a textbox control for example, but I don't think it should act differently in a freeform container.

                  okay good.
this is my feeling, don't quote me on it.
the date picker depends on jquery which in turn takes over the html element which is being called professionally as freeform layout.

while <table><tr><td></td></tr></table> works well i think the same is achieved better with <div></div> where you can have more control. table is under html dom control most often. if you want take a look at gmail in source code, you will see everything is <div>

OK gandhi I will look into using div's. I like the idea of having more control. Tables are the way I have always done it. Sometime it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
