Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    how to show hide UX, grids, sections, buttons based on user or group?

    how to show hide UX, grids, sections, buttons, panel cards based on user or group?

    security framework does not work in this scenario(it redirects user to login screen even though he has access to some controls) as I have multiple tabs and in each tab I will have multiple controls and UX components. Each component may be hidden for user based on his group. How do I do that easily without writing many code lines. I will have 25 screens and each screen will have 5 to 10 controls and will need to be visible/invisible based on user group(admin, user, coach), for example coach will have access to review payment methods UX.
    I do not want to do heavy js mentioned in https://www.viddler.com/v/620c20f4

    I see there is show/hide expression https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-N-j4XSNKQ, I need the same based on user and groups.

      I tried security group in UX with embedded object but even though user is not administrator he sees the grid.

        obviously, i am guessing..
        can you make the panel_card_4 under security- administrator and see if the grid show up. ( i think you don't need to make the embedded grid under security)

          Thanks Gandi. I tried many settings. The only setting that works is logout if user does not have access to any of the ux, multiple ux in panels. I need hiding multiple controls based on user access or hide/show rules. If you look at my screenshot alpha says the component is hidden if user is not part of group but most likely there is bug in this property. I also have a need of making multiple controls readonly based on tab or user login(for example summary tab to show all entered summary in readonly-this is just an example and I will need condition based readonly-same control/grid will be editable if admin logs in)

            I was able to get show hide working! using (it shows as hidden)
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-N-j4XSNKQ
            but when I hit http://localhost:1580/MYSAMPLE1.a5w?...getype=%22a%22 I get
            400 Bad Request

              I want to know if all alpha controls(all controls- did not see it for grid) have static enable/disable and show/hide property. We do not want to script big logic just to hide/show, enable/disable controls(100+ controls in multiple screens). It needs to be at property level just like visual studio controls or telerik controls.

                Is this a PG build? I use the security settings all of the time for this exact thing with no issue in a web application from a TabbedUI to individual controls.

                  I would check to see that your user doesn't belong to both security groups.

                    Thanks Charles. This will help. Can you please send me a screenshot of how to make set of controls visible or disabled based on security group? I actually have a need in my summary page to disable all controls(make all controls-20+) readonly and there will be many needs like this(visible/enable- many controls based on condition) but I do not see these 2 properties in all controls(I see these in many but not all.

                      Re: how to show hide UX, grids, sections, buttons based on user or group?

                      I can but I can also tell you how I do it and maybe this will help as well. I use the Client-side properties show/hide and or the server-side. First in the ondialog initialize you can get the users guid from the users table using an alpha function. Below is sample code I use to do that.
                      Once you have that you can do a sql lookup to the members table to get the usergroup that matches the user_Guid

                      I am assuming your using SQL and the standard security tables here, btw.

                      Code:

                      dim cn as sql::Connection
                      cn.open("::Name::Connection1")

                      dim pUser as p
                      dim pUser.userid as c
                      dim pUser.guid as c

                      a5ws_logged_in_user_values(pUser)
                      'logged in user values let you select any security field value from the users table

                      session.guid = pUser.guid
                      session.usergroup = sql_lookup("::name::Connection1","members","user_Guid='"+session.guid+"'","group_Guid")
                      'This looks at the members table and returns the "group_Guid" (User Group) where the user_Guid = pUser.guid (the session variable value)

                      Then you put the usergroup field in your UX (hide it) and set it's default value to =session.usergroup
                      THEN you can use the SHOW/HIDE and READ ONLY properties in the client side and place somethign like
                      usergroup <> "1341423235"

                      Now, the only issue MIGHT BE that if it's client side the information is there it's just not visible in the page so if it's mission critical that the info NEVER be exposed you might have to use server-side and refer to the session vars like
                      session.usergroup <> "3de55" when you don't want that group to see the text control at all.

                      I hope this helps, I threw a UX together for your to look at as well.
                      Bottom line is get the value of the users "members group" into a variable and use it to set the properties you want.

                      Now there are probably many ways to do this - this is just how I do it.grouptest.zip
