Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • {dialog.object}.saveListEdits('LIST1',{rows: 'allRows'}); works haphazardly

    Dear all

    Just cannot get this problem figure out. Maybe one of more clever developers out there can point me in the right direction.

    I have an application that is running most of the time disconnected(lack of consistent wi-fi)

    When my quality manager comes back at her office she presses a sync button and I execute

    var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
    var lObj1 = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST_CARE');

    alert('put any thing in here);

    {dialog.object}.saveListEdits('LIST1',{rows: 'allRows'});

    Now for the sake of me. If I take the alert function out, we have to press the button a few times before it eventually sync. If i leave the alert function it syncs every time?
    I am using a sync log file, and do notice that it is not deleted after synced, even though it set to be deleted on successful sync.

    Any advice?

    Re: {dialog.object}.saveListEdits('LIST1',{rows: 'allRows'}); works haphazardly

    I'm going to guess that there's just too much going on at the same time.

    Your alert stops processing at that point... and this allows your .updateListFromUXControls() to finish up. There's a lot going on when saving and syncing parent/child Lists.

    First, I'm guessing you typed your alert statement into the posting, because it has an error.
    Second, I'm guessing that your Lists are Parent/Child... although you've not said.
    Third, when running code against parent/child List setups, I'd prefer to do stuff starting at the bottom... working my way up to the parent List.

    Try using A5.runChain(). Have a look in the Release Notes for this.

    In the button in which all your code is running... comment out that code and put in a call to a Javascript function...

    In your UX Javascript functions section, add these functions...

    function saveSyncLists(){
    	var actions = [saveChild,saveParent,syncParent];
    		function() {
    			alert('all done');
    		function(err) { alert('error: ' + err); }
    function saveChild(obj){
    	var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LISTCHILD');
    function saveParent(obj){
    	var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LISTPARENT');
    function syncParent(obj){
    	{dialog.object}.saveListEdits('LISTPARENT',{rows: 'allRows'});;
    The saveSyncLists() function sets up the A5.runChain() process to call the other functions. I don't know how this will work out given that the functions being called are actually calling functions... but can't hurt to try.

      Thank you very much. It is really good advice. Your guessing was right a)It is a parent child table.
      In principle I should have added each save, sync button on the specific list, but from experience working with nurses, one have to reduce the amount of interaction with buttons to the minimum. Nurses are people persons and not fond of I.T. systems :) , hence the one button to 'doitall'

      I had to add a wait in the function between save and update to get it working. Will see how it is going in my tests today.

      Thanks again for your quick response.

      function letsWait(obj) {
      setTimeout(function() {
      //console.log('wait 2 seconds'); // call the next function to be executed
      },2000 );

      var actions = [saveChild,saveParent,letsWait,syncParent];

        Re: {dialog.object}.saveListEdits('LIST1',{rows: 'allRows'}); works haphazardly

        I have increased the timeout to 4 seconds.

        I have also added a button disable function at the start and button enable at the end.

        It is working consistent now.

        for any other unfortunate soul stumbling on this question, remember to set the phonegap ajax url to the IIS server i.e and publish the app as well to the IIS server. If you do not do this your sync will come back with success, but no data will be created.

        David, thanks again for your great help.
