Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Arguments not returning list value

    Hi guys

I must be overlooking something simple.
I have been using as well as several posts but I cannot get the arguments value from a list control.

    Using only 1 UX

    My list is LIST_CONSUMERS

    return primary key(consumerid)

    Argument name: arg_consumerid
    Datatype: Character
get argument value from: set value at Run-Time

It does not matter what ever refresh or delays i built into, The value coming back is {LIST_CONSUMERS} and not the primary key,
If I replace the arguments value with any arbitrary value i.e 300 etc it works.
Changing the return key to a field value also does not work.

    Suggestions will be appreciated.

I have also added a delayed event in a a5.runchain function before open next page to see if it is not a async problem, but it did not helped.

How are you trying to use the Argument?

"open next page"... what next page... open what... how?

I have a list (no parent relationship)

        On click I open panelcard with other list. {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANELCARD_3',true);
In this other list I want to use :arg_consumerid in the select statement.

Re: Arguments not returning list value

So you actually have 2 Lists. You click on a row in List1, transitions to PANELCARD_3, which contains List2.

List2 is based on a sql statement which includes an argument. The argument is as you've posted... and the select statement looks something like this...

          SELECT InvId, CustId, InvoiceNbr, InvoiceAmt
          FROM tblcustomerinvoices
          WHERE CustId = :arg_consumerid
You have your List1 "Return value type" set to "PrimaryKey".

You have your List2 set up as "Delay render till visible" which will refresh when the List is brought into view.

Or... List2 is set up as "Delay render till explicit refresh" and you execute a .refreshListData() before you transition.

Or... neither "Delay" is set up for List2... and you're executing a .refreshListData() before you transition.

This works in my tests. You've not reported if this is a web app or a PhoneGap Build app... or what Alpha version/build you're using. Pre-rendered? Offline?

            Thx David

It is offline list rendered mobile app.

It works when I set the properties to Delay render till explicit refresh and then refresh the list manually when the list is rendered.
As the app will mostly function offline I still have to consider the impact of an ajax callback when in an offline mode.

Re: Arguments not returning list value

Now we're getting some info... offline. This is really important up front. You haven't really confirmed that you're working with 2 Lists... I believe you are, but be nice to have that confirmed.
Also not confirmed is Web app or PGB app... or what version/build of Alpha you're using.

You also referenced that Alpha Doc where the 2nd List is set up to have a Parent List... but you're not using the Parent List setup... is that right?

So... you want to use 2 Lists... the 2nd List dependent (filtered) on the selection from the 1st List... and all Offline.

You do not want to make an Ajax Callback to populate your 2nd List... is that right?

Are you populating both Lists upon render?
