Can you find and replace text in static text controls?

I have a UX with about 30 static text controls. I need to change part of the text in all of these controls - only part of the text, the rest of the text differs from control to control so I can't just change one control then duplicate it. Is there a way to find and replace?

you need to do few things to accomplish this:
when you declare the static text, the first line of the control, give an id. <span id="text1">your static text here </span> ( so you will have 30 of them with text1...text30)
assuming you want to change the control via a button onClick event then you call a javascript function staticReplace();
the staticReplace function will be

function staticReplace() {
var controls = ["text1","text2","text3","text4","text5"....,"text30"];
for (var i = 0; i < controls.length; i++) {
var j1 = document.getElementById(controls[i]);
var text = j1.innerHTML;
text = text.replace("what you want to change", " to something new");
j1.innerHTML = text;
	}
}

that should work

The basic premise is good, but you can do this a bit cleaner... without cluttering up the DOM with additional <span> tags.

The StaticText controls are already rendered in a <div> with an Id. Use Alpha tools to get at them. E.g. The Static Text Properties sheet shows you the Id of the control... E.g. STATICTEXT_1.

Use this Id and the .getPointer() method to get access to the StaticText object.

for (var i = 0; i < stControls.length; i++) {
	var stObj = {dialog.Object}.getPointer(stControls[i]);
	var stText = stObj.textContent;
	stText = stText.replace("Your Static Text", "New Text");
	stObj.textContent = stText;
}

Too funny... yes... a few specific details would have been nice.

There's a very powerful process you can use. While viewing the Controls, click on the "Eye Dropper" which is the "Paste current property value to multiple controls at once". In this dialog you'll find a property "Compute the property value using Xbasic code" and a link to Explain it. This lets you apply changes to Multiple controls via Xbasic code... which means you can do pretty much anything you want to the static text.

Copy the code you end up using and save it in the Xbasic functions section... because it's not saved anywhere I know of once you close the "Paste" dialog.

Your function could be something as simple as...

function setProperty as c (currentValue as a, arrI as p, wp as p)
'Write xbasic code that computes a new value for the property.
'Your xbasic function must return the new value as a CHARACTER value (regardless of the actual data type of the property).
setProperty = stritran(currentValue,"Static Text part","new Static value")
end function

Thanks David, that is exactly what I needed. It worked perfectly and saved a lot of otherwise monotonous editing. I'll be using that approach again for sure.
