Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Get a pointer to a UX component opened inside a DIV

    I'm trying to get the value of a control in a UX component which has been opened in a DIV it's own panelcard.
    If the control is blank (""), then I want to move to a different panelcard.

    My code may be ugly, but not sure how else to do this.

    Code:
    if(typeof {dialog.object} != 'undefined') {

    	var po = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();

    	//I opened a UX component in a DIV of the current UX component 'MYCADIV'
    	//Get a pointer to the child UX component with alias of 'WOSIGNOFF'.
    	var co = {dialog.object}.getChildObject('WOSIGNOFF');

    	[COLOR="#FF0000"]//the getpointer line fails[/COLOR]

    	//now get a pointer to the div holding my UX component
    	var ele = co.getPointer('MYCADIV');
    	var CA = co.getValue('CA');

    	if (CA=="") {
    		po.panelSetActive('WORK_ORDER_ITEMS',true);
    	}

    }

    Why a UX in a Div in a PanelCard? Why not an embedded component within the PanelCard? Then your "child object" stuff will work as you expected.

      The simple answer is that I don't know what I'm doing.

      The longer answer is the parent UX has many panel cards, many used to hold embedded objects.
      The parent has server side events.

      The component that I'm opening in a DIV has it's own server side events and xbasic functions.

      I found it easier to build small singular components. This is my first attempt at using a DIV.

      I did watch your youtube video: "Create & Populate New Record in a Div on a UX " which is similar to what I'm trying to do.

      Great video, very helpful and thank you.

        I think you're getting into a bit of "who's on first" here.

        You're in the parent, getting a pointer to the child... but you're also getting a pointer to a parent. So... where are you starting from... the parent or the child?

        If the parent... then this will work... as long as your child alias is set...

        Code:
        if(typeof {dialog.object} != 'undefined') {

        	//I opened a UX component in a DIV of the current UX component 'MYCADIV'
        	//Get a pointer to the child UX component with alias of 'WOSIGNOFF'.

        	var co = {dialog.object}.getChildObject('WOSIGNOFF');
        	var CA = co.getValue('CA');

        	if (CA=="") {
        		{dialog.Object}.panelSetActive('WORK_ORDER_ITEMS',true);
        	}

        }

          Re: Get a pointer to a UX component opened inside a DIV

          I'm starting with a button on the parent, 'MechLbr_Open_WOs'.

          The button when pushed get values from the list in the parent.
          The parent runs an ajax callback to return a multi field key.
          The parent then does a runaction to open a child ux component alias 'WOSIGNOFF' filtered by the key.
          The runAction then activates the panelcard, 'PANELCARD_CA' containing the DIV, 'MYCADIV'

          Code:
          if(typeof {dialog.object} != 'undefined') {

          	var co = {dialog.object}.getChildObject('WOSIGNOFF');
          	var CA = co.getValue('CA');

          	if (CA=="") {
          		{dialog.object}.panelSetActive('WORK_ORDER_ITEMS',true);
          	}

          }
          When the above code runs, I get this message.
          object doesn't support property or method 'getValue'

          After writing this out, what I want is the value of the control, 'CA' which is in the UX component, 'WOSIGNOFF', which is inside the DIV, "MYCADIV' in the parent object, 'MechLbr_Open_WOs'.

            Re: Get a pointer to a UX component opened inside a DIV

            I believe you're running into a timing issue. You're going after the child UX stuff before the UX is actually finished loading. All of this has nothing to do with the div. You can either wrap the child UX stuff in a setTimeout... which is always a bit dangerous... or switch things around.

            In the child UX, onRenderComplete, run your code to check the value of 'CA'. Then get a pointer to the parent object... and set your PanelCard. Check the action which opens the child... the property for caching the UX should probably be turned off.

            One of the differences between opening a UX in a Div... and using the Embedded Object... is that the Embedded Object has the property... onLoadComplete Javascript which can help take care of this type of scenario... although the code still runs in the child UX.

              David,

              Thank you, thank you, thank you. Here's my final code in the onRenderComplete:

              Code:
              if(typeof {dialog.object} != 'undefined') {

              	var po = {dialog.object}.getParentObject()
              	var co = {dialog.object}.getChildObject('WOSIGNOFF');
              	var CA = co.getValue('CA');

              	if (CA=="") {
              		po.panelSetActive('WORK_ORDER_ITEMS',false);
              	}

              }

                Re: Get a pointer to a UX component opened inside a DIV

                You're already in the child UX... so you don't need to get a pointer to it. Also, to be able to run and test the child UX by itself, test for the parent object.

                Code:
                if(typeof {dialog.object} != 'undefined') {

                	var po = {dialog.object}.getParentObject();
                	if(po){
                		var CA = {dialog.object}.getValue('CA');
                		if (CA=="") {
                			po.panelSetActive('WORK_ORDER_ITEMS',false);
                		}
                	}

                }
