Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

JavaScript errors after new server installation

We are running Alpha Server IIS on a virtualized Hyper-V Windows Server 2012 R2. Made the jump about a year ago and have been running rock solid ever since.
We have no problems with service stoppages or performance issues. Our application sees a relatively light load with perhaps 5-10 users at any give time.

Through the initial setup we worked closely with Alpha Software. They helped us work through the initial installation and configuration road bumps and we helped them to
resolve a few bugs as well. We provided them with a feedback report on the implementation. Now, that was over a year ago and I expect the transition to be much easier.

In the beginning, we kept the old WAS running while we were testing the IIS implementation in parallel. So, yes you can run both servers at the same time. Ours were on physically
different workstations. After about 3-4 months we were satisfied with the IIS performance, switched over completely to IIS Server and turned off the WAS.

I'm not certain whether Alpha IIS is still considered beta or not. The last time I spoke with Alpha on this, they were working through some technical challenges on converting
exisiting IIS beta licenses to production licenses. So, it kind of sounds like we are past the beta stage.
    Hi,
We are setting up a virtualized Hyper-V Windows 2012 R2 server. So far we have been un-able to get the Alpha Anywhere software to install and run properly.

Would you be able to share some of the initial installation and configuration settings?

If you could that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Re: High Load Alpha Anywhere on IIS Servers / Stability Question

We have been able to deploy multiple sites on IIS with no issues from an installation / configuration point of view. We use this guide: http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/a...ion-guide.html

It is fairly helpful for getting things started. After you work through the guide you would create a publishing profile for IIS. Generally we do this with a small 'dummy' project in order to ensure things work. After which we will publish our entire app + testing.

      Hope this helps!

Re: High Load Alpha Anywhere on IIS Servers / Stability Question

Thank you Scott I will read that to see what will apply to us.

We are not trying to set up Alpha Anywhere IIS, just plain Alpha Anywhere, but I am working with the guy who does the hardware and Windows installation. He created a virtualized Hyper-V Windows 2012 R2 server for me to install Alpha Anywhere. The problem is that while the Alpha install program will run, it doesn't install any of the node services. We initially thought it was because the old 8dot3 was not enabled for the server, so we got that enabled and tried again. We uninstalled everything, rebooted the server and tried again, but no luck. In fact we did that 2 or 3 times. I tried copying the whole a5v12 directory from one machine to another, still no luck. Alpha will run and will publish files but when the Application server runs we get all kinds of javascript errors on simple UX components that have run fine for the last 2 years.

So to answer Stephen's question about what settings to we need I don't know how to answer that. I guess all of them, because it doesn't appear the virtualized server has the correct settings to run Alpha.

We are at a loss on what to do.

          Thanks,
          Mike

Re: High Load Alpha Anywhere on IIS Servers / Stability Question

            Sorry Mike,
THis thread was IIS related so I assumed IIS.

Alpha will run and will publish files but when the Application server runs we get all kinds of javascript errors on simple UX components that have run fine for the last 2 years. - With regards to this I would ensure a few things:

#1 - does your app use the built-in security and if so, is the 'Enable Security Framework' checked in the server settings?

#2 - does the alpha anywhere server version (Right click server in systray > configure server) you are targeting match the IDE version (Help > About Alpha Anywhere) you are publishing from? a mismatch here could cause issues

Re: High Load Alpha Anywhere on IIS Servers / Stability Question

We are trying to set up a new server, so...
Yes, we do use the built in security and the 'Enable Security Framework' is checked.
And yes the IDE and server versions are the same.
All the settings, profile, security, server email and configuration are identical to the settings to the old server where the app is currently running.

Re: High Load Alpha Anywhere on IIS Servers / Stability Question

Odd. When you uninstall / reinstall Alpha - are you running as Administrator?

The steps I would take would be:
                Uninstall
                Restart the machine
                Install (Run as Admin)
                Restart the machine
                Publish + Test

I see you mention node - we have not done much with regards to node integration in alpha, but I know during installation at one point node registration kicks off. Do you see this happening / is this failing?
Maybe another avenue to look at.

Re: High Load Alpha Anywhere on IIS Servers / Stability Question

                  Hi,
I did all that, even though I am logged in to the server as the administrator. More that once actually.
With regard to node services, we are not using any node services. But, Alpha does use some of the node services as components are built. I believe it used in validation and other things.
In a fresh install of Alpha, node services is supposed to install. That is not happening. I did submit a bug report, but Alpha cannot duplicate the error.
