Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help with Registration UX

    Hi Guys ....

I want to create a registration UX for the new user web page that will create a user in the Web Secrutiy Table and save some data into the Customer Table. In the past I have done this using the "Create New User Account and Add User Information to Related Table" UX Template. When someone completes and submits their registration details I have some code that sends them a welcome email.

In the new application I am moving over from native DBF to MySql. I have set up Security to use MySql tables and have populated them with secrutiy data from my old application and it all works .... I can log in as a user. I now want to create the registration UX so people can register online.

In the new set up I have included a Secret Question and if I were to add the new user manually through the Web Secrutiy "Users & Groups" facility I am provided with the Secret Question Dropdown and Answer; however the UX template only creates User Name, Password and Confirm Password controls.

How do I add controls to the UX for a Drop Down to Select the Secret Question and a control for the user to input the Secret Question answer? What do I bind to or where do I link to to get the Drop Down questions and where/how do I save Secret Question data to the security table?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Re: Help with Registration UX

I think Jerry has a series of videos covering this. You must link to a new SQL table.

Check the videos by searching security.

Thanks for the quick response Michael .....

I've seen this series and have used it in another application as a basis to set up the new user in the security table and write datea to a customer table. What it does not show is how to use other elements of the secruity system i.e. the Secret Questions and Answer.

That is the bit I am stuck on .... How do I add controls to the UX for a Drop Down to Select the Secret Question and a control for the user to input the Secret Question answer? What do I bind to or where do I link to to get the Drop Down questions and where/how do I save Secret Question data to the security table?

      Any thoughts?

      Thanks again.

        Re: Help with Registration UX

You save the secret question to the linked table and the answer.

Alpha lets you add choices before and after to the drop down.
You may need to add other false questions to confuse the position of the correct answer in the drop-down.

When they make a choice in the dropdown use the onChange event to do a lookup.

If the input value matches the looked up value you are ok.

Let me know if you want a simple component to illustrate this.

          Re: Help with Registration UX

          Michael .....

I think I have solved the problem:

I have created a mySQL table with the questions and placed a dropdown control on the UX with the "Choices" dynamically linked to get the questions. I have also put a textbox control for the answer.

On Server-Side Action "dialogValidate" there is an action ExecuteServerSideAction("Validate Web Security Values::ValidateSecurity"). When you edit this action it allows you to Assign Variables (the variable name for the control) to the Security Value. (Each variable can only be assigned once).

On the Server_Side Action "afterdialogValidate" there is a an action ExecuteServerSideAction("Save Web Security Values::SaveSecurity"). This needs to be edited to Assign the Varibale as before.

This should write the Security Question data to the websecurityusers table.

When I test it I'll let you know if it doesn't work.

          Thanks for your help.
