Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Is user active??

    Hi All,

    I have a UX that functions as a main menu with tabs and buttons.

    Does anyone know a trigger I can use to run a callback when a user clicks on a button or changes a tab on the ux?

    I know I can put code on each button and the tabbed object, but that's a lot of work and was hoping that there was something in the UX itself.

    I did try the afterAjaxCallback client-side event, but that does not fire.

    Any thoughts??

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Scott, I haven't tried it but what about something like OnStateChange? which fires whenever the UX changes from clean to dirty or vice versa.
    Or maybe OnControlChange? which fires when a control's value is changed.

        Well, you can force it to be dirty if that's the case, with {dialog.Object}.setDirty();
        It might mean you need to do this for buttons, unless someone else has a method.

        Here's a quick example, the textbox is hidden until the button is clicked and the UX becomes dirty.

          Re: Is user active??

          if you read the title and ux being the mainmenu, i have a feeling that you want to test if the user copied the page somewhere or bookmarked then trying to open it and you want to verify they are in fact logged in and are active before proceeding. if this is the case, may be then, why not add an action in onRenderComplete client side event where you can call an ajaxcallback function then if they are not verified you may be able to redirect them to login page.
          is this workable?
          thanks for reading

            Thanks Stephen, yeah I was trying to avoid coding the buttons. I really thought the afterAjaxCallback client-side event would work since pressing a button to open a grid or ux techniclly is a ajax callback, but no joy. Thanks again for your help.

              G, thanks ... actually I want to record the last time a user pressed a button to track if the screen is just staying opened with no activity or if the user is actually working .. this is a client request for some reason. I cn time them out and record that, but its not what the client wants .. its just one of those things ... Thanks for your input.

                okay here is some food for thought and to play,
                wrap every title in a span element, like button text will be <span>Something</span>
                then
                in the javascript
                $('#span').click(function() {
                var j1 = new Date();
                {dialog.object}.setvalue('your_control_to_track_last_activity', j1.toFormat("MM/dd/yyyy 0h:0m"));
                }

                as you can see i haven't worked this thru yet, this is just a thought process in my head.
                see if this helps.
                i can check this later on.
                thanks for reading

                  Thanks G .. don't waste anymore time on this .. either way I would have to do something with each individual button .. my goal was to do it all from a trigger on the "Main Menu" UX .. I will just code the buttons .. it is what it is .. thanks for trying.
