Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problem with linked report

I have a problem with a linked report that I can't seem to get to work. The last 2 columns do not show the data when I view the pdf from the web. I have verified the data in the view that feed this linked report is valid. It displays OK by previewing the linked report itself. It displays OK when previewing it in the parent report. It does not display OK from the web. Any Ideas are appreciated. This is causing a great deal of frustration. I am still on the last release 4346 4889.

This is how it looks in the designer preview.

I still have not figured this one out. The parent record after and before prints with all of the fields displayed. It is this one record. It must be a cache thing. Since the first time I printed the record the fields were not properly filled in. I just can't get it to print correctly now that they are.

      Wild Guesses:
      1) Are there some conditional style statements that are being used anywhere on the subreport?
      2) Are you sure the VIEW feeding the report is correct on the web server (assuming its DB is different than development computer).

Thanks for the guesses Rich. I have verified that there are no conditional styles and I know some will cringe but I only have one data source.

          Re: Problem with linked report

I thought of a couple of other things that have caused problems for me in the reports designer:

          - When defining the Cell Contents, sometimes the radio button chosen for the cell type make things not work correctly, even though it shouldn't really matter. For example, sometimes I have had to make sure I use "Static HTML" for everything instead of using the "Field" radio button. "Static HTML" does accept field names, so I don't know where it gets the name "static" from.

          - Sometimes you have to go to the main report, right-click a sub-report, and then select "Refresh linked reports"

          - There are issues with fonts in sub-reports, but I don't know if I have ever seen the issue cause a field to not appear.

Rich, thank you helping me with this problem. This is one of the weirdest things I have had to deal with. As I said before the reports before and after this one print correctly. The only difference between the records in this report and the reports that print OK are that the first time I printed the bad report the fields were empty. I have since verified that the fields exist. I am looking at the data in the view which shows the fields as the report prints with fields blank. The list that I use to edit the data is showing it fine. The detail view has the fields filled out properly.

              Re: Problem with linked report

It would be good to try deleting the cell contents from the report and adding it back in as a different type, as eluded to in my previous post: "Field" vs. "Static Text".

Frank, I will try sending you a private message on this board.

I am having the same problem with a report. I have four reports in an application but only one is presenting with this problem I have checked all of the report settings side by side but cannot see any differences. Build 4491 4932.

                  Re: Problem with linked report

I deleted and rebuilt the report and the problem has been corrected. The problem appears to have been with the HTML since the missing data printed correctly in the pdf but didn't show in the word or excel formats which are taken from the html.

                    Re: Problem with linked report

Bob, I wonder if the problem would have fixed itself if the fields were deleted and re-added to the report instead of having to create a brand new report. When I mentioned that the cell type sometimes makes a difference, I should have mentioned deleting the field and re-adding is more reliable than just changing the field type.

                      Hi Rich,

I just tried that as I had a second copy of the original report. It didn't work. I even tried deleting the fields then saving and closing the report, re-opening it and adding the fields.
