Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Parent/Child Lists - how to refresh just the child list

I have a customer who has a parent and child list setup.

If you double click on the child list, it opens a UX in a new window for editing the record.

However, once you edit the record and return, we want to refresh the list to reflect the changes.

If we try to directly refresh the child list, we can't - because it's a child list.

But if we refresh the parent list, we may no longer see the same child list, because the parent list has refreshed and is no longer selected with the same record.

I could reselect the record in the parent list once the refresh has completed, but I'm wondering if there isn't an easier way?

I suppose if instead of opening a window, we could open a detail view of the child record instead, but that isn't the way he wants it ...

    Have you tried: listObj.updateListFromUXControls();

That method updates a list with the information from the detail controls. This is not a detail situation. The list opens an entirely separate UX in a window.

I want to put something in the onhide event of the window which will refresh the child list.

To make the edits, are you using the
"Open UX as an alternate editing view for current record" Action Javascript? ...and not using the "Open a UX component to Edit Current Record in List Control in a UX..." one?

The former is supposed to do what you want except that I think you'll need to set up a detail view (that could be hidden of course) anyway for the child list.

I am not using either method.

The UX was data bound and he was using all the features. (like delete record.)

So we had to open the UX on it's own, pass in parameters and then use the "loadprimarykeys" feature of the UX to get the record. If we didn't open it that way, we couldn't use the delete record feature of the UX.

We could redo the UX to get around that by just writing xbasic to take care of deletes and such, but everything is working as is, except the refresh.

When you open the UX harvest the primary keys of the child list and parent list. Refresh everything and then set focus with the saved primary key's

              I'll give that a try.

Otherwise, we'll probably just redo the list to have a detail for the child OR just manually run the second list instead of using parent child.
