Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calendar component and onItemDraw event

    Hi,

I'm using a calendar control in my app and have enabled events ("Has events" is ticked in the calendar component). I've specified a javascript function for the "onItemDraw" event. I was assuming that this event would fire when the calendar component is drawn. However, as soon as I start my app, the event seems to be firing.

I have a button which makes the panel active in which the calendar component is placed. I would have thought once the panel is made active, and the calendar is drawn, the event would fire. Am I missing something here ? Thanks for any help.

    Cheers,
    Greg

Re: Calendar component and onItemDraw event

The Calendar is drawn on the load (like most Controls) not the panel action, there is no render on visible option as far as i know, and that onItemDraw fires every time each date is drawn so it's a risky move - i don't use it.2017-07-31_2340.png

Re: Calendar component and onItemDraw event

Thanks Pete for the reply. Two questions:

      1. So when does a UX component get 'loaded' typically?
      2. Based on the videos, the onItemDraw event is used to insert the html (event names.etc) into the individual date 'cells'. Is there another way to do this ? If so, any pointers?

      Thanks,

What are you wanting to do? in the onItemDraw?

When the calendar is displayed, I am wanting to show jobs assigned for the logged-in user. For example, if the logged in user is assigned a job on the 20/8/2017, I want to have a link displayed in the cell for 20/8/2017 so that when you click on the link it will bring up a detailed view of the job.

I have setup a client-side data cache for jobs which are assigned to the logged in user. The cache is pulling the data from a mySQL table called jobs and filtering based on the logged in user.

The idea was that when the onItemDraw event is called for a particular date, the js function would compare the passed in date to the assigned dates for each of the jobs stored in the cache. If a match is found, it would write the job name into the cell.

The issue I am having is with timing. The onItemDraw event is getting called as soon as I start the app, and the job cache never gets a chance to refresh the data from the database.

          Cheers,
          Greg
