Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Simple UX question for client side calculated fields

    Hello all you good people of AA! I will preface this with I am *not* a JS developer, and my knowledge of AA is limited. I have an app that is using a calculated field that currently works when testing for one condition, but I am getting hung on on trying to test multiples.

    Code:
    if(MTA_Placement = "Unsafisfactory - Location",5,0)
    So the 'score' field looks to the MTA_Placement field (dropDownBox with static text values). I need to test for multiple possible text values and evaluate for that to set the score #. I have tried many many things and don't know if it's a syntax issue or I need to be attacking it in a different way. Any input is greatly appreciated!

    I would call a javascript function and use a "Switch Statement" to evaluate it.

      That looks like a simple xbasic expression. You can nest if() statements but case() is often easier to maintain by adding logical test and return value pairs.

      case(MTA_Placement = "Unsafisfactory - Location",5,MTA_Placement = "OK",99,.T.,0)
      There can be only one.

            might be interesting if you showed the really fancy method details! I liked the record count part.

              Very very cool. As always, it looks like I was stuck inside a box of thinking, instead of trying to see a completely alternative way to solve the problem. I really appreciate the screencasts, I will take a harder look and try to get that working. Thanks so much for your time, Ivasic!

                Another reason I suppose I need to look at xbasic a bit more. Javascript solutions are just easier to find out there in search engine land. :)

                  This one is for Charles:

                  Most of this excellent code came from DavidK.

                  Code:
                  var emailArray = [];
                  var lObj = {dialog.Object}.getControl('SPlay'); //targeting list control

                  	for(i=0;i<lObj.selectionData.length;i++){
                  		emailArray.push(lObj.selectionData[i].Plays);
                   	}

                     	var emailStr = emailArray.join(',\n');
                     	emailStr = emailStr + '\n' +'_______________________';
                      emailStr = emailStr + '\n' + 'Total Plays: ' + lObj.selectionData.length;
                  	{dialog.object}.setValue('ListOfChoices',emailStr);

                      Hey - thank you, Lee! I finally had time to look at this, in fact, I almost forgot but luckily I didn't! I have to ask though, are you just reusing code or are you about to email out a list here? It is fast as lightning!

                        That's awesome! I don't think I've ever seen a list used that way, very cool.

                        Thanks Lee (and David).
