Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Embedded Object in UX Component

Has anyone had good success with embedding objects inside a UX? For me it doesn't seem to be working so well. I've experimented with embedding other UX components, A5W pages, grids, static HTML pages, and all seem to give me issues. Either not displaying fully on the page, or not allowing me to scroll (even when allow scroll checkbox is checked). Just wondering if someone has had success and would share what they did to make this work well. I read somewhere to try iframe instead. I have been playing around with that and also running into weird issues.

Yes... works quite well. I use it specifically to embed other UX Components... and I've only used within PhoneGap Build Applications.

In one app I had a Parent UX and embedded a Child Navigation UX. The Navigation UX had 6 other UX Components embedded.

3 UX Levels deep, Offline, Lists, Dynamic URL, Persistent Login... pretty much everything you can throw at a mobile app... and it worked beautifully.

I had this problem yesterday with Jim's calendar. It displayed way too small on normal screen display. My issue was the parent tab it was embedded in had css rules that overrode it's child rules. I should have known...

Ok, I'll have to do more experimenting I guess. So far it has been a disaster for me. But maybe there is some css like you said that is causing my issue as well. A lot of times it only displays in a small window that is just part of the screen, or it will not let me scroll. If you have any more details on what css you found that caused this, I would love to know. Thanks!

Just say what you are wanting to achieve and we can then take a look at the best way for you to go about it. Much easier than guessing..

Sure thing. To try to summarize, I've got a grid that is running inside of an A5W page. Here is an example:

            (link removed)

I have tried to re-create this page as a UX, but have been disappointed with some of the capabilities of the UX in this regard, and so I have decided that I would prefer to embed this into a UX rather try to rebuild it.

And one of the big reasons on moving towards the UX is to have persistent login, which I have working and it is great. So what I would like to see is my UX component with persistent login which will be made into a phonegap build, and then once logged in, an application that has this grid embedded. I could embed just the grid, or I could embed the A5W page which has the grid. Either way (I've tried both, and have not had good results). Whenever I try to embed the page above, it is either just displaying on part of the page, or it will not scroll, and is basically unusable.

Re: Embedded Object in UX Component

Just an update on this one. I've had some success, but still not fully there. I was able to embed the grid into my UX, and with some tweaks to some CSS settings, I was able to get it looking workable. But now the issue I am having is that the search button for the grid does not work. If I view the UX/embedded grip through a web browser in an A5W page, the search button for the grid works fine, but if I view the same UX/embedded grid in PhoneGap, the button stops working. So it seems to be a PhoneGap related issue, but not sure. Any thoughts on this?

The Grid is not designed for Mobile use. You'll spend a ton of time trying to get it there... but something will always be off.

Re: Embedded Object in UX Component

That is too bad, as the UX doesn't do what I need. I've been using the grid for mobile for some time now and it has been fine. I tried to rebuild my grid in UX and I haven't been impressed. Some of the features in the grid are more polished. And like I said, seems to work fine from a mobile browser, it's just when I run it through PhoneGap that I lose button functionality. And the embed feature shows that you can embed an A5W, grid, static page, etc. Oh well, I guess I will have to go back to the drawing board if I can't use my grid. Thanks.

Carl, don't be too quick to give up on the UX - the more you get into it the more you will see how much better suited it is to the mobile and desktop web browser than the grid. Don't get me wrong the grid is an excellent resource for web applications - I would bet a majority of applications use them in one regard or another. If your building PGB applications I would leave the grid as well as a tabbedui out of it entirely - stick with the UX - you will not regret it and it can do whatever you need it too!
