Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Scrollbars on list controls on touch pcs or mobile devices disappearing

    Many of my customers are having an issue with list control scrollbars not showing up. Always is on some device that has touch features. Is there some setting I can use in list controls to force scrollbars to show up?

    You can try putting this in Client-side events within onInitializeComplete
    A5.u.drag.useDragScrolling = 'never';

    This has fixed an issue in my UX where vertical scroll bars were NOT being drawn by the browser for drop downs, and yet still worked great on touch devices. It seems like it was laptops with touch screens that were the issue when I used drag scrolling - the scroll bars on regular browsers were GONE- If didn't then the touch screen wouldn't scroll - so I set the panel card body can scroll vertical and then put this in the client side event.
    Now the scroll bars appear and the container is still touch device compatible. I have Body stop drag prop - checked btw as well
    Hope it helps you.

      I'm not using panels in the components with list controls that have the issue, but I will experiment with your suggestion anyway. Thanks, Charles.

        Hi Carol,
        Were you able to get this figured out? I seem to be having the same issue, but only with Chrome and Firefox. Both IE and Edge work as expected.

          Not really. My tech has worked with several of my customers to overcome the issue by getting their computers out of touch mode, but he says its different for different people.

            Same here! I could also use some help with this. Just had a client who ran a windows update. After the Windows update one PC started having the same issue. She does not have a touchscreen but now the computer thinks she does. (sigh).

            I have tried turning the touch features off, but that doesn't seem to help either. A setting inside Chrome would be nice ...

              Yes, I’m still interested in this, too. Is not really resolved here.

                In Chrome, try this from one of my customers:

                Justin found an article about tweaking Chrome’s flags, and once I went to chrome://flags I found a section for Touch Events API. It was set to “Automatic,” and I selected “Disable” from the drop-down. I closed out and reopened Chrome, and TAA-DAAA! My lovely scroll bar is back and all is right with the world.

                  This may help you.
                  Tips

                  UX Component - Drag Scrolling vs. Vertical Scrollbar - Web Applications - In some cases you might have a UX with a Panel Card that contains more content than can be displayed in the Panel Card. Vertical scrolling is required to see the content that is not initially visible. On a mobile device, the user will scroll using drag scrolling.

                  In a web application, you want the user to see a vertical scroll bar.

                  However, if you are running the web app on a machine that is touch enabled, then drag scrolling will be enabled, and the vertical scroll bar will not be visible.

                  Here is how you can force the app to show a vertical scrollbar:

                  In the client-side onInitializeBegin event: add this code:

                  if( [condition you want to not drag scroll] ){
                  A5.u.drag.useDragScrolling = 'never';
                  }
                  Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

                    Larry, thanks for sharing the flags thing for Chrome - I had not heard of that. I have a customer who can drag the screen but it is akward, perhaps this will help.
