Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Zip and post the a5w page and 2 components you used in your video. I'll run them here under 4491.

        Re: Logged in as

        i think there is timing issue when you embed a component and the logged in user does not populate properly.
        to solve this
        on the onRenderComplete event of the parent dialog ( in your case the persistent login ux ) add the code
        Code:
        var j1 = localStorage.getItem("name");
        if (j1) {
        setTimeout(function() {
        document.getElementById("user2").innerHTML = j1;
        },2000);
        }
        where the user2 is the id used in
        Code:
        Logged in as: <span id="user2"></span>
        i gave 2 seconds, you might succeed with 1 second delay

          Carl... when I added your components and ran them under 4491 I was getting Javacsript errors. I opened the 2 UX components and from the Controls, Menu, selected "Recalculate all controls." Then I saved and published. I'm publishing to Local Webroot and testing there.

          No more Javascript errors and the components work as expected.

            Re: Logged in as

            Thanks all for the responses, it is finally working! I am running with Davidk's solution because that was built in v12, and doesn't seem to having the timing delay issues. Govindan, thanks for putting together those screencasts with your ideas. Both of these solutions have taught me some things. I do not have a programming/xbasic/javascript background, so I appreciate you all putting up with my questions. Hopefully I will continue to get a better understanding of this stuff so I don't have to bug you all so much!

              Re: Logged in as

              So why is it working now?

              There couldn't be any timing issues in this case, using the components as built, because nothing is waiting for anything.

                Are you referring to the UX you helped me build? Or what Govindan put together?

                  Re: Logged in as

                  The Alpha Version 12 UX Components. Why are they working now? Gandhi thinks it's a timing issue... but having Version 12 and an understand of how this process works shows that it can't be... since there is no reliance on timing.

                    Re: Logged in as

                    Gandhi's alpha 11 component was the one having the timing issue. The one you helped me with in alpha 12 has no issues. Doing the recalculate all like you suggested is what ultimately fixed the issue. That and I didn't have the component alias defined properly for the embedded UX in the parent. Thanks again for all the help.

                      Re: Logged in as

                      Just re-read your comment, perhaps I am misunderstanding. I am using the solution you helped with, so not 100% sure what is or isn't the issue with what Gandhi provided. He suggested a timing issue, but maybe it is something else?

                        Re: Logged in as

                        Right... that's why you were getting the cObj error... because of the alias. No idea on the stuff Gandhi provided... I didn't look at it since it couldn't apply here.

                          Re: Logged in as

                          what if I wanted to tweak this to show a friendly name instead of email address, would that be hard?

                          I've got a table right now called "usersregistered" which has a corresponding first name that goes with the email address. I figure somehow I could pull the name from that table.

                          tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\usersregistered")
                          query.filter = "username="+quote(var->session.UserID)
                          session.First_name = alltrim(tbl.FIRST_NAME)
                          tbl.close()

                          Not sure exactly how to write this, or how to tie it into the code above from davidk that I am currently using. Thanks!

                            Re: Logged in as

                            You're using xbLogin... so I'd add any additional code to get other data (a friendly name) in there. Set a state var... and then process that var back in the client.

                            You're working with a PhoneGap Build app... and unless you're working with a 100% guaranteed connection I wouldn't use session variables. Even if you could guarantee the connection... I wouldn't use session vars.

                            Are you working with DBF tables??

                              Re: Logged in as

                              So maybe adding something like this to xbasic:

                              dim friendlyName as c
                              friendlyName = ???

                              e._state.friendlyName = friendlyName

                              And then some javascript:

                              var friendlyName = {dialog.object).stateInfo['friendlyName'];

                              var cObj = {dialog.Object}.getChildObject('SNAP_MOBILE');
                              var cEle = cObj.getPointer('logged_in_as');
                              cEle.innerHTML = friendlyName;

                              I'm a little fuzzy on the specifics of the syntax. Oh, and I am mostly using SQL tables. This usersregistered table is one of the last holdouts that I have not converted over yet.
