Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    CanDelete in grid is throwing an error ...

    In the CanDelete event of a grid, I have this code:

    if tn>0
    Result.Cancel = .t.
    Result.ErrorHTML = "Folder cannot be deleted because it is not empty."
    END
    end if

    It throws this error:

    XHTTPRequest Error:

    500 Internal Server Error

    Script ErrorError:Script:a5GridHelper_saveGridData() line:649

    Property not found

    rv._detailViewRecord subelement not found.

    If I comment out the 5 lines, it works fine. Does anyone know what causes this error message - and I get it frequently.

    You're using Xbasic, so I'd guess it's a server-side event. Where is the CanDelete event? There's a CanDeleteRecord... is that what you're using?

    Where is tn coming from?

      Hi David,

      Yes, its the CanDeleteRecord server side event.

      tn is a numeric variable = to the number of records retrieved from a table.

      And I get that error message even when I comment out all the rest of the code.

      Thanks for any suggestions.

        Using this code... no errors... no issues. What Alpha build are you using?

        Code:
        dim tn as n = 0 ' or 1 to trigger the error
        if tn>0
        Result.Cancel = .t.
        Result.ErrorHTML = "Folder cannot be deleted because it is not empty."
        END
        end if
        If you comment out all your other code in this event... and just leave in what I've posted... does the issue still exist?

        Can you post the your other code?

          Build 4346

          Here is the entire code:

          function CanDeleteRecord as v (DataSubmitted as P, Args as p, PageVariables as p, Result as P)
          with PageVariables
          Result.Cancel = .f.
          Result.ErrorHTML = ""

          'dim ndx as p
          'dim tbl as p
          'tbl=table.open("[pathalias.adb_path]\folder_data")
          'query.filter="folder_id="+quote(DataSubmitted.Folder_id)
          'query.order=""
          'query.options=""
          'ndx=tbl.query_create()
          'dim tn as n
          'tn=ndx.records_get()
          'ndx.drop()
          'tbl.close()

          dim tn as n
          tn=1
          if tn>0
          Result.Cancel = .t.
          Result.ErrorHTML = "Folder cannot be deleted because it is not empty."
          END
          end if

          'if DataSubmitted.Ndocs>0
          ' Result.Cancel = .t.
          ' Result.ErrorHTML = "Folder is not empty so it cannot be deleted!"
          ' end
          'end if

          end with
          end function

          Note that when the condition is false, the deletion occurs without any error; when the condition is true, the deletion does occur as expected but I get that error message.

            More information:

            If I simply make the grid updateable and turn off the detail view, it works! In other words, if I try to delete a record that has associated records, the deletion is prevented and no error message, It is only when I use the detail view.

              You mean the deletion does NOT occur... is that right?

              I'd build a new test grid, just a few fields, detail view, and add your code. Something else is going on. Under 4346 I'm not seeing any issues... using your full code and with or without a detail view.

                Hi David,

                Yes, sorry about that - does NOT occur.

                I did end up doing that and it was working fine and as expected up until I added something in one of the events. I have to go back and redo from scratch again to catch what is causing the problem. But yes, starting from scratch, the detail view does work as expected.
