Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Issue with & in SQL Insert

    I keep getting this error when I try to save a new record from the grid. Can someone please help.

    Error - Associated statement is not prepared SQL State is: HY007

    Basically there are 2 drop downs and one text box in the grid. The problem is with & in one of the values in the first drop down. No issue when other options are selected.

    Since when we use &, SQL expects a substitute, I have been trying for alternatives to make this work. Below are the 2 solutions I could find.

    1. Replace & with \0026 when inserting and reading the values from table. But we cannot do this as this data is being used by many other applications and we do not have any control on other applications. So this is totally ruled out in our case
    2. Set define off. This works in SQL Developer perfectly. But somehow am not able to set it up to the grid before inserting. I have added some xcode in Server Side Events - onBeforeSQLCommandExecute as mentioned below but even that did not help.

    xcode sample

    Code:
    sqlQquery = "SET DEFINE OFF"
    dim flag as l
    e.cn.PortableSQLEnabled = .t.
    flag = e.cn.execute(sqlQquery)
    e.SQLCommandWasHandled = .f.
    There should be a solution to accept & in Alpha for sure. I have spent much time searching for it in google and alpha forums but did not find any feasible solution yet. Can someone please help me with this.

    Re: Issue with & in SQL Insert

    you could post your code for insert when the & is selected then someone can try to help.
    otherwise, the first dropdown has & in one of the value. people can imagine that but may be not that good as you post an example.

    i just tried with an option that contains & and it works properly
    the sample i used
    woodford&grand and
    woodford & grand
    the first with no space the second with space.

      Hi Gandhi!

      We did not write any xcode for crud operations. In the Grid fields - Update Settings, we have checked Updateable checkbox and mentioned the table details. Attached is the screenshot of the settings

            Re: Issue with & in SQL Insert

            Thank You for the video Gandhi!

            But when I tried running an insert query in SQL Developer, I am getting the same issue. when I am inserting any value which has & like 'Web & Mobile', it prompts for a substitute where & is used in the insert query.

            To avoid that I either use Set Define Off before executing the insert query or add \0026 in place of &.

            So the issue is with SQL itself and need to handle that in alpha as well.

                HY007 appears to be an MSSQL error.

                    Re: Issue with & in SQL Insert

                    while i work with mySql, i tested this using sql server - express version and i do not see any problem inserting a word with "&" in it either via management studio or alpha. i did not expect to see. this is not the first time anyone trying to insert "&" string into any sql server variant. that would have been corrected long time ago.
                    if you still want to have this addressed and able to show in detail what you have then may be you can post an example.

                        Re: Issue with & in SQL Insert

                        Strangely after updating to recent upgrade in alpha, we are not getting exception if we have & in first drop down. But we are still seeing the same issue if we have & in second drop down. I did not see anything different or weird in both the columns.
