Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Reinstall issue

I have a developer license and a runtime license. I also have a subscription. I recently upgraded several computers in my office to faster processors with Win10. I did a clean install of the runtime version on each new PC and now have multiple access issues (error messages stating a user doesn't have permission to a shared resource - yes they do) and the "Query function is missing. The application never changed and the 3 other computers that were not upgraded run Alpha fine. I searched for an updated version of the runtime but did not find a source for that. Current version is Runtime plus version 12.4.3.1 build 3962

How do I resolve this issue?

Bob, did you run the install process with administrator privileges? It may appear to go in smoothly without, but could have hit some problems in the background.

      Re: Reinstall issue

Yes, when I installed Alpha I was the only user on the machine and, yes, that was an administrator account. To be sure, I uninstalled Alpha, logged iun as the admin and then reinstalled the runtime version. No Difference.

        Re: Reinstall issue

Bob, being logged in using an administrator account is not the same as running the installation file using the "Run as Administrator" option from the Right Click Menu.
Select the installation file. Right Click on the file. Select "Run as Administrator.

          Ron,

No joy. I uninstalled Alpha and then rebooted the computer. I then reinstalled the latest runtime version by right clicking on the executable and running it as an administrator. The query function is still missing. It seems we're also having I seem to recall this occurring before and there being a setting or option that could be checked or uncheecked to show the query option. I poked around looking for it to no avail. Maybe I'm "mis-remembering". Can you confirm that the query option should be included in the runtime version?

            Re: Reinstall issue

I may be dating myself, but I remember that there were 2 "flavors" of the runtime. One was called "runtime Plus" which had additional features such as report generations and query functions, the other was just a "plain" runtime engine with no capabilities other than what you build.

            Could that be the issue?

                Jon,

When you say "Not been that way for many a year." do you mean that "query" hasn't been a part of the runtime for a long time?

Runtime plus version 12.4.3.1 build 3962 -I tried this and did not have the same issues, but had other ones, I saw it was a short run until the next was released. Try Runtime plus version 12.4.3.2 build 3670? I have had 0 problems with this one.

Bob, bear with me. I really don't understand what you mean when you say the Query function is missing.
Where do I look to find and use the query function.

I ask this as I have Query Genies available in my form and browse toolbars.

                      Ron,

See attached screen shot. Thequery missing.png

Additionally, I uninstalled the developer version from my pc and installed on one of my staff (who would normally use the runtime) and the query is missing from their menu even with the developer version running.

                        The plot thickens...

I attempted to work around the problem by adding a custom toolbar to the forms my staff uses. The custom toolbar does not display on the edited forms.

                          and thickens further.

IF I login as me on the runtime version at a staff PC, the Query portion of the menu is there. This has to be either a setting but I can't find it. It can't be a runtime limitation since it was there previously under the runtime version.

How about it Alpha tech support? Can you help me?

                            Re: Reinstall issue

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that the Query menu choice is missing from your menu. The Menu is the top row. Your attached picture is showing the Query menu choice. The toolbar is the row just below the menu row. I do not use the Menu in my forms, but if I open any table using the default form, the Query option is available, runtime or developer.

                            1. Are you using a custom Menu?
                            2. Are you using Alpha's built in security? Almost sounds like a permission issue.

                            Currently I'm using Version 12.4.5.2, Build 4770

Just another thought: when you install Alpha, a lot of information is written to and stored in the registry.
On this board I've seen recommendations to delete all references to alpha and then do a reinstall.

Bob, there's only been one flavour of runtime since V10.5 or earlier. The 'Runtime Plus' Tom refers to in post #6 is (i Believe) the only version distributed now.
