Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: SmartyStreet.com API for AA Desktop

    Its taking me forever to understand how this all works, but I've made a little progress. I was able to get my fields into a string that I could use with HTTP_GET(). But the return data is in JSON format and getting that parsed is a bit of a challenge.

    Example 1 from IW:
    Code:
    result = http_get(vurl)

    ?result.parsed_headers.status_code
    = 200

    ?result.body
    = [{"input_index":0,"candidate_index":0,"delivery_line_1":"811 N Beechwood St","last_line":"Philadelphia PA 19130-1404","delivery_point_barcode":"191301404115","components":{"primary_number":"811","street_predirection":"N","street_name":"Beechwood","street_suffix":"St","city_name":"Philadelphia","state_abbreviation":"PA","zipcode":"19130","plus4_code":"1404","delivery_point":"11","delivery_point_check_digit":"5"},"metadata":{"record_type":"S","zip_type":"Standard","county_fips":"42101","county_name":"Philadelphia","carrier_route":"C002","congressional_district":"01","rdi":"Residential","elot_sequence":"0130","elot_sort":"D","latitude":39.97002,"longitude":-75.17285,"precision":"Zip9","time_zone":"Eastern","utc_offset":-5,"dst":true},"analysis":{"dpv_match_code":"Y","dpv_footnotes":"AABB","dpv_cmra":"N","dpv_vacant":"N","active":"Y"}}]

    ?typeof(result.body)
    = "B"

    p = json_parse(result.body)
    ?p[1]
    =
    candidate_index = 0
    +components.
    delivery_line_1 = "811 N Beechwood St"
    delivery_point_barcode = "191301404115"
    input_index = 0
    last_line = "Philadelphia PA 19130-1404"
    +metadata.
    Notice the parsed data return is limited and I don't understand how to use +analysis, +components, or +metadata to get the lat/long data eg, with this pointer array.

    p[1].analysis returned 'sub-element not found'

    Example 2:
    Code:
    response = http_post_page2(vurl,"",.f.,30000)

    ?response
    = [{"input_index":0,"candidate_index":0,"delivery_line_1":"811 N Beechwood St","last_line":"Philadelphia PA 19130-1404","delivery_point_barcode":"191301404115","components":{"primary_number":"811","street_predirection":"N","street_name":"Beechwood","street_suffix":"St","city_name":"Philadelphia","state_abbreviation":"PA","zipcode":"19130","plus4_code":"1404","delivery_point":"11","delivery_point_check_digit":"5"},"metadata":{"record_type":"S","zip_type":"Standard","county_fips":"42101","county_name":"Philadelphia","carrier_route":"C002","congressional_district":"01","rdi":"Residential","elot_sequence":"0130","elot_sort":"D","latitude":39.97002,"longitude":-75.17285,"precision":"Zip9","time_zone":"Eastern","utc_offset":-5,"dst":true},"analysis":{"dpv_match_code":"Y","dpv_footnotes":"AABB","dpv_cmra":"N","dpv_vacant":"N","active":"Y"}}]

    ?typeof(response)
    = "C"
    In the 2nd example I should be able to use property_from_json(), but the WIKI examples on the json stuff has me VERY confused.

    It looks like I should be able to create a CSV file with the response data. Anyone know how to do that?

      Re: SmartyStreet.com API for AA Desktop

      I refreshed my vurl and tried it again and got the results I wanted:

      From the IW using Example 2

      Code:
      dim varP as p
      varP = json_parse(response)
      ?varp
      +[1].

      ?varp[1].metadata
      = carrier_route = "C002"
      congressional_district = "01"
      county_fips = "42101"
      county_name = "Philadelphia"
      dst = .T.
      elot_sequence = "0130"
      elot_sort = "D"
      latitude = 39.97002
      longitude = -75.17285
      precision = "Zip9"
      rdi = "Residential"
      record_type = "S"
      time_zone = "Eastern"
      utc_offset = -5
      zip_type = "Standard"

      ?varp[1].metadata.latitude
      = 39.97002

      ?varp[1].components
      = city_name = "Philadelphia"
      delivery_point = "11"
      delivery_point_check_digit = "5"
      plus4_code = "1404"
      primary_number = "811"
      state_abbreviation = "PA"
      street_name = "Beechwood"
      street_predirection = "N"
      street_suffix = "St"
      zipcode = "19130"

      ?varp[1].analysis
      = active = "Y"
      dpv_cmra = "N"
      dpv_footnotes = "AABB"
      dpv_match_code = "Y"
      dpv_vacant = "N"

        Re: SmartyStreet.com API for AA Desktop

        Here is my UDF Get_Zipcode() that will return the 10 digit zipcode and the postal barcode from the SmartyStreets API

        Code:
        FUNCTION Get_ZipCode AS C (vAddrStr AS C ,vUrl AS C = "", vAuthid AS C = "", vToken AS C = "" )
        'DESCRIPTION: Call the SmartyStreets.com API & return 10 digit zipcode data
        'Dim shared vBarcode in calling script and this will return the postal barcode for printing on labels too

        Get_ZipCode = ""
        'Set up Free account at SmartyStreets to get Api Keys and set to global variables
        'Allows 250 address checks per month

        with global_variables()
        if vAuthid = "" then
        	vAuthid = Api_ID
        end if
        if vToken = "" then
        	vToken = Api_Token
        end if
        end with

        if vUrl = "" then
        	vUrl = "https://us-street.api.smartystreets.com/street-address?auth-id=__1__&auth-token=__2__&Candidates=10&street=__3__&"
        	vUrl = stritran(vurl,"__1__",vAuthid)
        	vurl = stritran(vurl,"__2__",vToken)
        end if

        'Validate address & return zipcode - vAddrStr format example:
        '123 N Main St Harrisburg PA
        'Note: vAddrStr contains no punctuation or commas, only spaces between address fields (Freeform style)

        dim shared varP as p
        dim vUrlStr as c
        dim new_str as c

        vUrlStr = urlencode(vAddrStr)
        vurl = stritran(vUrl,"__3__",vUrlStr)

        'Note including header returns Status_Code 200 & OK if passed - test then remove
        response = http_get_page2(vurl,.t.,20000)
        if "OK" $ response then
        	'header tested OK so remove the 5 header lines & 1 blank line and parse the remaining json string
        	new_str = *line_remove(response,1,6)
        	varP = json_parse(new_str)
        else
        	dim msg as c
        	msg = "Address Validation Failed"+crlf(2)
        	msg = msg+"Please check address format then try again"
        	msgbox("Script Error",msg,48)
        	goto ENDIT
        end if

        dim shared vBarcode as c
        vBarcode = varP[1].components.zipcode+varP[1].components.plus4_code+varP[1].components.delivery_point+varP[1].components.delivery_point_check_digit

        Get_ZipCode = varP[1].components.zipcode+"-"+varP[1].components.plus4_code

        ENDIT:
        end

        END FUNCTION
        NOTE: The API would not accept the URL string when I urlencoded the data, hence why I used place holders with stritran() after encoding the address string. You can type in an address directly or pass it in a variable. You will need to obtain the API keys first and set them into global vars. By using a session variable for VarP, it should allow the other parameters to be passed in too to the calling script.

        If you want to try it you can copy & import this function into the control panel code tab: Get_ZipCode-06-17-2018.txt

        If you add any modifications, please let me know here!
