Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to add a set to an application

I need to add a set to my application for multiple users - running TS on server.

I add the new set to my developers version. Then copy the sem / set /sex plus .adb file to all users.

Is there another way similar to: a5_add_fields_to_table() maybe a5_add_set_to_app()?

    Thanks,

    ~ Tom

To be more precise, looking at the control panel options, I want to "Add Table/Set to Workspace" via xbasic.

Re: How to add a set to an application

The autocomplete suggests that FILE_ADD_TO_DB() will accept either a fully qualified table name or set name (or a crlf() list of same).

      Just tested and

      file_add_to_db("C:\Users\Stan\Downloads\db\test\testfile.set")

      re-adds a set that I manually dropped.
      There can be only one.

Re: How to add a set to an application

I suppose I'd test with File.exists to be sure its not already there.

Would I download the three set / sem / sex files?

        I'll test it out.

        Thanks again Stan. Much appreciated.

Re: How to add a set to an application

Upon further testing, it seems that if the table/set to be added exists, file.exists(), and is already added to the work space, there is no problem.

So no need to see if it is already in the Workspace. This seems a little strange, but no error was detected.

How would I check to see if it is already in the workspace?

          "test.set" $ a5.Set_Enum("") - doesn't work

Re: How to add a set to an application

a5.Set_Enum("") returns the "next" set in the list of sets attached to a database after the named set. Locally that looks like, for AlphaSports,

            Code:
            ? a5.Set_Enum("")
            = "product sales"
            ? a5.Set_Enum("product sales")
            = "theset"
            ? a5.Set_Enum("theset")
            = "inventory"
a5.Set_Enum() returns a list of all sets attached to a database

            Code:
            ? a5.Set_Enum()
            = product sales
            theset
            inventory
            items-product
            invoice
            prod_invitems_invhead_cust
            vendors

            Set_List as C = :A5.SET_ENUM( [ Flag as N ] )
            There can be only one.

              Below tests out OK.
              Code:
              dim vExists as C = a5.get_path()+chr(92)+"Test.set"

              dim Set_List as C = :A5.SET_ENUM(4)

              IF vExists $ Set_List then
              	ui_msg_box("","Set already in workspace")
              	Goto skip_addtable
              Else
ui_msg_box("","Set NOT in Workspace - will attemp to add now")
              	IF file.exists(vExists) then
              		FILE_ADD_TO_DB(vExists)
              		ui_msg_box("","Set added to Workspace")
              	Else
ui_msg_box("Sorry","Set was not found in folder - Set NOT added to Workspace")
              	end if
              end if

              skip_addtable:
              Thanks again ~ Tom
