Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Is it possible to pull website text and play recorded words

    Hello all,

I'm just wondering if a desktop app could be made using alpha to parse say the national weather service website forecast for an area and then take specific text from it and match the words to voice files that are the words like
word (tomorrow text) is matched to (voice file tomorrow) and the (website text rain) is matched to (voice file rain) and once done play the voice file tomorrow followed by voice file rain resulting in hearing "tomorrow rain".

Just curious if that capability is possible and how complicated.

    Thank you!
    Paul

I didn't read this through. I think what you want to do is called screen scraping. This may help.

You could ask Google to say what the weather is going to be in audio via a link to a url, or get an Alexa or Google Home device.
      See our Hybrid Option here;

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

I suppose it would be very easy with nodejs.

For example get wheather and say it

Re: Is it possible to pull website text and play recorded words

All very good information, but I was looking to somehow take a text word like "temperature" that would be on the weather site and match that text "temperature" to a stored wave file with the same name as the text like "temperature.wav" and then the next text word from website being a number "72" and match that to the stored voice wave file "72.wav" but then comes how to create a single wave file from all the individual wave files, so I think this is probably way too complex.

            The thought was:
The weather websites have a limited number of vocabulary words to use in conditions and forecasts which helps make the stored database wave files or MP3 files cover only the words they use more limited to say 200 words or less. It's like these words "It's currently 72 degrees and raining with winds from the southeast" there all words that repeat and the biggest amount of wave or MP3 files are temperatures or humidity where you could have 200 temperatures say - 50 to 150 to be extreme example here. More likely say -50 to 125 or somewhere close to that.

It would be parsing a weather website for current conditions and taking each word in the conditions and match the text to the wave file or MP3 file that has the same name as the word

It would need to piece all the individual wave files together somehow in the background to make a single wave file to play out later or after creating that single file

With that it is probably too complex although its been done with maybe straight code by others years ago just that it is no longer offered, so this project is for a non-profit low power FM station that is for a community and wants to announce the weather without someone being there.

Just a pipe dream I guess?

            Thanks for all the input!

Just addressing the text to speech part:

              Code:
              TextToSpeech("Say something")
