Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Are you using native Alpha Five tables in your set ?

    Do the imported records appear if you close and re-open the form?

    Do the imported records appear if you navigate to a different parent table record and then return to the original parent table record?

    If you open the "default" browse for the table do the imported records show up? ( Right click the table name in control panel, choose Open Default Browse )

        What are the names of the two tables?

        Tell us how you are linking them, using actual fieldnames

        I am assuming this set uses a one to many link. Is this right?

          Do the child records appear correctly linked to the proper parent if you view the default browse of the set? Data imported from Excel often closely resembles the Excel values including leading spaces, etc. Those leading spaces mean that

          " ABC123" will not match/link "ABC123"

            @tom

            i named them differently (ckd_dms and ckd_dms_no) then made table set.
            i linked the like usual one to many links, and yes i used their field, same type and width.

            @stan

            pardon me, they don't show up in the set but they appear in separate tables.

              If they don't show up in the set you haven't defined the link correctly.

              Can you attach sample tables for us to examine?

                    Re: embeded browse form wont update

                    Examine the two tables, one at a time.

                    Do the values in DMS_NO look exactly the same in both tables (no leading spaces, no trailing underscores, etc)? Are there matching values in DMS_NO in both tables.

                    Try changing the linking field definitions to alltrim(DMS_NO) for both tables.

                      Your picture of the ckd_dms table doesn't show any values in the DMS_NO field. If that is true for all the records there is nothing to link to.

                          Karlo, if the rows being imported to ckd_dms do not have dms_no field values how is Alpha Five supposed to populate each with the correct link field value?

                            Re: embeded browse form wont update

                            by the auto generated dms_no fieldrule i created. i want that the data will be the same on all the imported set of data from excel. those dms_no will be automatically generated every time i import a new excel file. thats why i put them into sets, and as far as i know from tutorial it can be. for example you have a vendor name but different products.

                              You want all the imported records to have the same value in the dms_no field? You know what that value should be before you import the file? Why not put the value in the Excel file before you import it?
