Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Trying to save Forms in Alpha 12

    Several questions that may help.
is your application in a folder on the root drive of the disk and NOT in program files?
The forms are actually saved in a file associated with the dbf or set they are based on.
Is the table(s) and or set in the same folder with the adb?
You said you had this problem before? How did you remedy the problem then??

Can you please describe in detail what is happening after you create the form?
Did you restart alpha after you saved the form? and was it there after a restart?

I think maybe you answered your own question when you stated the application was within the programmes files folder.
Try moving your application to its own folder on the root (C) drive of your computer and see if that resolves the issue.

          Stephen,

I am on win8.1 my alpha dev is in "program files (x86)" My applications are on the drive c:\ or D:\ in a relevant folder.

Windows/MS has been trying since Vista to eliminate data files from program files. It has gotten worse with each version of windows since. It looks at a ddm file as a data file(which it is) and a ddx as an index file(which it is).
DBF and FPT are know data files of course.

Added: I, like most others, install the runtime outside of program files for simplicity.

Re: Trying to save Forms in Alpha 12

When you install Alpha V12 or Alpha V12 Runtime, by default they will install in x86 program files - and they will work just fine there.
You may also install them in another drive, like C:\

            BUT

Your program must NEVER be installed in any program files folder - it must be installed in another folder, like C:\my application name or d:\my application name

the Alpha engine and related files are in one folder - and the programs that it runs are in other (their own) folders - period.

              Hi Martin,
Are you saying that my current setup in XP will not work in Win 8? I put each ver of the A5 program in its own directory on C: and each ver of my apps in a subdirectory of the A5 program folder. It was my understanding in the beginning that this was where Alpha expected to find the application files.

I try to avoid the program files and my documents folders if at all possible...

As long as your application folder is not in any program files folder
I have maybe 30 different applications, each one in its own folder - but I don't keep them in the Alpha folder; however, that is a personal preference, not a requirement.

After XP, Microsoft made it increasingly difficult to get an application to run in progranm files (a Microsoft safety preference)

That started with Vista. It was difficult to run or save anything in P files. It was relaxed as updates came out. We were doing Vista on all the new machines we built at the time as OEM.
Each version of windows has tightened that a bit more.
