Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

A button on another form will close & reopen the form as required, but it only runs successfully by clicking the button anything else programmatically just fails to reopen the form
May get there but running out of ideas

    BTW.
I am not haunting the site.

As Mayor, I get email almost constantly, so I am plugged in to my Tablet and can't resist peeking.

There has to be a solution, just not found it yet.

Obviously we have been on the same track
i have a button on another form which closes & then opens the form I wish to resynch, no resynch is necessary as when the form is opened again it is synced.
what I cannot do is get that button to work from the original form using push event as it just closes the form
    still trying though
I will try your suggestion next

I have gone in circles also, however, using a separate form to handle the refresh, you can close and open the data form quite neatly

Button on Data Form - I called it Refresh. It;s a bit like the Backup - you could say it was a requirement that the current form is closed during the process
    Action - Close current form
    Action - Open refresh form

Button on Refresh Form - I haven't tried launching the actions OnInit in the form
Action - Run the Resynch process
    Action - Close current form
    Action - Open Data form

Got the work around, as the close & reopen would refresh, i ended up using the timer of a different form (my main app menu) to do this
    Thanks

    Solved it.
There is an Action Script event which allows you to refresh active tables.
However, the active link needs to be part of a Set with a 1:M relationship.

What I did was create a set based on the active linked tables, added a button with the Action Script attached.
Then, in my world, the Active Links were updated, although you sill need to go to the last record to see the changes.

The only other way I can imagine this working while not annoying users is to have a button which opens a resynch form, closes the current one and reopens after resynching.

Something like "You should Synchronise Your Data" - Opens a new form, closes the view form
    "Click Synchronise" in new form.
    Reopen Viewing form.

It's a bit of a faff but manageable.

I was already using resynch to no avail
form close and then reopen does not seem to work when added to the ontimer event, as it just seems to close the form but not reopen it, even with a sleep between
    thanks

Look at OBJECT.RESYNCH method in the documentation.
Else, quick and dirty you could freeze, close, open, unfreeze.

If your table is large, you will be waiting a long time I suspect to get a refresh.

started a topic Embedded Browse and Active Link Table

Embedded Browse and Active Link Table

I have moved a table from dbf to sql with an active link Table.
The Form with an embedded browse refreshed easily with the dbf but the only way i can get it to refresh with the active link table is to close & reopen the form.
I also notice just opening a default browse for an active link table does not refresh unless the browse is closed & reopened.
How do I get the form/embedded browse these to refresh programatically?
    Thanks
    Terry
