Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX in desktop

    I am using a UX in desktop & wish to open a form based on a value in the list in the UX. How do I pass the value in the js variable containing the list value into a variable used in the xbasic script?
    Thanks
    Terry

    Would this work? You would define and ajax callback which runs xbasic code. You can add parameters to the callback which allows one to pass data to the xbasic.

      How do I write an xbasic function to transfer the value of a field on the current list row into a global variable that already exists in the desktop, so the Desktop Script can then use the Global Variable.
      Thanks

        This is the function i have written:-

        function vQUOTENUMBER as c (e as p)

        vQUOTENUMBER = ut(e.data.QUOTENO)
        'vQUOTENUMBER = "TESTING"

        end function

        using the commented out line gets the value "TESTING" into the global variable, but e.data sub element is not found for the data i wish to put in the variable..

        My lack of knowledge in creating these functions is my problem.

        From the help there was a function that included this line:-

        'e.data - data for the current row in the List

        but i am not sure if you have to define the e pointer first

        This is run from a button in the list

        Any help would be appreciated.

        Thanks

          I'm just guessing as I have never done anything like this. What happens if you try something similar to this.

          Code:
          function vQUOTENUMBER as c (e as p)

          vQUOTENUMBER = ut(e.data.QUOTENO)
          'vQUOTENUMBER = "TESTING"

          dim global myvar as C
          myvar = ut(e.data.quoteno)

          end function
          By declaring the global variable in the ajax callback, is the variable then visible to the desktop side?

            The Global variable transfers OK to the desktop as stated when set as "TESTING"
            dimming is not the issue it is this:-
            Capture.PNG
            As this is a list and from a button on the row I would expect the e.data.QUOTENO to be the value of the QUOTENO column on the current row, believing that the e.data dot variable contains all of the data from the current row
            Where am i going wrong - perhaps something else has to happen at the button click.
            Thanks

              Hi Terry,

              Have you tried adding Debug(1) to the function and inspecting e
              .debug1.jpg
              How are you passing e to the function.

                debug returns same error "e.data sub element not found"
                and shows e as:-
                {tmpl=,rtc=,arguments=,rv=,session=,_A5_Aliases=,_XbasicFunction=vQUOTENUMBER,_currentRow=1,__FormAction=GenericAjaxCallback,__FormID=undefined,V=,old=,dirtyColumns=,__loggedInUserNameFriendly=,__isLoggedIn=false,__a5browserflags={'supportsTouch': false, 'suppor,_part=,__chunkedResponses={"allow":false},_hiddenControls=[],_state=,__securityAction=,__componentGUID=4ed5135a-cb67-407b-bc5b-e31b8e19,__instanceGUID=null,__callbackId=8E10A408-EC46-4B4C-B2DF-843CDBE1,__locationFound=false,__Ajax=true,__AjaxURL=a5res://a5wobject/__hidden__VarT,request=,ServerSetting=,componentAlias=DLG1,flagMustExecuteComponent=.T.,tmpl_DLG1=,componentName=C:\Users\TerryM\AppData\Local\Te,x_DLG1=,__initialLoadIsAjax=,localPreview=,_currentRowDataOld=,_currentRowDataNew=,dataSubmitted=,oldDataSubmitted=,dataSubmittedRaw=,dataSubmittedJSON=,dataSubmittedJSON_NoDeletedRows=}

                I am not doing anything to pass e to the function as I believed this was automatically assigned when working with lists, as being the list you are working from with data being the data of the current row.
                Thanks

                  Hi Terry,
                  Not sure how you are calling your function code.
                  Are you calling an action to call an ajax callback and if so are you passing an additional parameter?

                      This is the actual code
                      {dialog.object}.ajaxCallback('','','vQUOTENUMBER','','',{chunkedResponses: {allow: false},deviceOfflineFunction: function() { }});

                          I found my 2 mistakes:-
                          you have to use e.datasubmitted instead of e.data
                          I had no detail section to my list as one was not required, but by adding one just for the field "QUOTENO" this gave me a control with the value i required.
                          vQUOTENUMBER = ut(e.datasubmitted,QUOTENO) now works perfectly.
                          Thanks to all
