Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Output to Outlook Stopped working

    Hello

Our applications automatically integrate with Outlook.
A dialogue box asks the user if they want to:
    • Preview
    • Print
    • Email

The code prints the document to a PDF and then launches Outlook and attaches the PDF with the Recipient, Subject, and Body populated by the code.
Worked as should since pre A5V10 days.

A hard disk failure forced me to reinstall AA V12 and Outlook 2016.
Now it fires up Outlook, but doesn't attach the PDF and populate the fields.

Upgraded to the latest version of AA 1st December and it has made no difference.

Any input would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated.

    Kind regards

      Before the HD failure:
      1. What version of AA were you using
      2. What version of Outlook were you using
      3. How were you generating the PDF file

After replacing the HD, did you reinstall all the same versions of software?
Was the software reinstalled in different folders (path change)?
What ever you changed would be the first place where I would look.

      Is the PDF being generated?
Going backwards, maybe the best solution is to use debug(1) to see if the script is failing.

You installed the latest version of AA. PDF's are being generated differently. You need to
reference the release notes. AA is moving away from the old PDF generator Amyuni, but there is
an option in the preferences to still use the old one.

      AAandPDF.JPG

I guess you don't have a backup image of the drive.
I always have a fairly recent HD image. Easier to start with an out of date image than to
      reload from scratch.

I had this problem in the past & found i had to re-install Office 365 cleanly using the microsoft tool & this got the integration with Outlook working again. Also turned off automatic updates in outlook so would have more control over these in case they caused the same issue.

          Hello
I have now reinstalled AlphaAnywhere Version 12.4.6.2.6 Build 7295 with Addins Build 5548 using the latest installer.

In Settings, I have configured Preferences PDF to Y for the Amyuni printer driver.

In the System Email Setup, I have defaulted it to my Default Email Client which is Outlook 2016

On the Test, I get the following

Connect to Outgoing (SMTP) Server failed:
The hostname might be incorrect or the server may be down.
WSAECONNREFUSED - Connection refused while connecting.

          Detailed Description:
No connection could be made because the target computer actively refused it.
This usually results from trying to connect to a service that is inactive on the
foreign host—that is, one with no server application running.

I have no issues with Outlook except with Alpha.

          Could this be a bug?

Thanks for any help. It is much appreciated.

          Kind regards

Checking the control Panel I am running the AlphaFivePrinterV5p0 printer driver.
Should I perhaps replace it with Amyuni Version 4.0.1.2?

Couple of long shots here, Alex.
              1) try running Alpha as Administrator. it shouldn't be necessary but try it.
              2) try printing a report to your usual printer. Not Outlook.
              3) try installing Firefox or a different email client and see what happens.

                Hello Ted

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
1: Alpha as an administrator - tried this and it made no difference
2: I tried running a report to the Alpha printer within the application and it worked fine.
3: The same code works fine when it runs with Thunderbird as the default email.
4: The code works fine on my HP laptop.
5: The code works fine on another in house machine with the same version of Windows 10, and MSOffice Outlook 2016.

Everything points to an issue with the Outlook 2016 installed on the machine I have the issue with.

I have, however, uninstalled MS Office 2016 and reinstalled it to no avail.

The only option I have left is to flatten the machine and install Windows 10 and all the applications.#
As and when I do this I will come back and let you know the result.
Before I do that you don't know of a good Outlook repair utility?

Once again thanks for taking the time to reply.

                Kind regards

Try running what's between the SYS_OPEN() brackets in RUN, not COMMAND.EXE. (Edited line 5 minutes later!)

My hunch is this is a permissions issue with the attachment location.

                        Ignore my last, incorrect, post...

Try the following to narrow down the issue:

This works on mine from the interactive window (change the c:\t2\test.txt file to a file on your machine) (ALSO,CHECK PATH TO OUTLOOK EXE ON YOUR COMPUTER):

                        sys_shell("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\outlook.exe /c ipm.note /a c:\t2\test.txt /m [email protected]?subject=hello")

This works fine from the RUN box (change the c:\t2\test.txt file to a file on your machine):

                        outlook /c ipm.note /a "c:\t2\test.txt" /m "[email protected]?subject=hello"

Which one, or do both, fail?

I don't seem to have gotten as far as I planned, Alex.
                            Another couple of ideas.

Rename a Corrupt "Outbox.dbx" File. This is local to a machine, so as you are having issues with just one, it looks like a local Outlook problem. Check out the implications of a rename.

Running sfc/scannow (from command prompt) should search for any anomalies in the PC system integrity. Check out how to enter the test first as between Win7 and Win 10 there are minor differences.

                              Hello Ted
I don't believe this is an Alpha issue.

When time permits I will flatten the machine and reinstall it from the ground up.

I'll pause when I have installed Windows 10, AA, and MS Office 2016 and check.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
