Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Default Form Field Dimensions

    Hello,

Is there a way to adjust the default form field dimension when creating a form. For me, all new fields that I place are 0.187" in height and I'd like for them to be 0.250". Would save much time. I've looked and looked and looked, and no luck.

    Thank you!
    Mike

I suspect you will need to define a new Theme with the colours and field sizes as you want them.
It is not too difficult and you should get exactly what you need.

      Hello Ted,

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you mean to make adjustments in StyleSheets? I cannot seem to find anywhere in there to set default dimension for height of form field. Most all else, but I see no place to set dimension.

      FYI...
      Edition: Developer
      Version: 12.3, Build 2999
      System Addins: Build 4519
      C Compiler: Microsoft C Compiler Version 1800

      Thanks.

Yes, Mike - in the StyleSheets area.
The documentation shows what can be changed, but it's better if you create a new one and then set the field sizes as you wish.
        Example;
        Create a BLANK form
Add the field you want sized differently. Just the one field, not everything at this stage - you can fiddle later.
Right click anywhere in the white space on the form
        Select Stylesheets
        Create New and name it
        Save the form.

Create a new form with ALL fields on it and choose your Stylesheet.

It should show the fields in the size you defined.

Ok, thanks Ted. I'll work at it that way. I was hoping to find a way to make the height of all new field descriptors and fields a desired set height so that as I drag/drop them from the field picker so I could drop them in place already with desired field height so I could, set it and forget it so to speak. This should save time, so thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Very much appreciated!!!

Once you set the format, Mike, all of the fields you add will be the correct size.
Setting the first one allows Alpha to save what you need for subsequent entries. Hope this makes sense, else send me the sizes you want and I'll send you a Stylesheet you can import.
You can import or modify an existing Stylesheet, but it's better to leave the standard ones alone.

              Hello Ted!

I believe I tried your suggestion and no luck. Created a new form, created a new stylesheet, adjusted the field height from 0.187 to 0.250, save stylesheet doing the Apply and Update, saved, closed, and reopened the form, and then added a 2nd field which came in at the old dimension of 0.187" height. Main desire for me right now is to make new fields dragged/dropped onto forms a height of 0.250". My style sheet is attached.

              Thank you.

Not to disagree with anyone I use an existing, make the mods and then save to a new name. Always worked best for me.

I agree Dave, however there is no way I can find to set the height of the type in field in the stylesheets dialog. Length, yes, height no.
If you increase the font size, that makes a difference.
If you change the field size on the form, go to styles - not style sheets - and do an update, when you add a field, it defaults to the smaller size, so the setting for that doesn't appear to be in the stylesheets dialog.
It may be in the View/Settings panel, so I will explore that.

What is possible is to lasso the fields you want to change and do it all in one go but I have had no success lassoing the label AND field doing that.

Mike, sorry to say that I haven't found a way of dragging a field onto a form and the height setting being as you wish.
Only thing I can suggest is to build a form with all fields on it and then delete the ones you don't need.
If the table has a lot if fields, you can manage how they're shown initially - so you don't end up with multiple tabs - by changing the default settings in View/Settings.
As I mentioned, there does not appear to be a default height setting for fields, at least I can't find one.

Hello Ted. Thanks for taking the time to investigate. I very much appreciate that.

I have been setting an existing field to desired height, then using Advanced -> Copy Selected Properties (object - height) to copy that info, and then pasting that to all other fields. Nifty feature to be able to copy/paste that one particular attribute. It would be niftier if able to set the desired height from the start.

Thanks again for your help and have a great day!

Glad you got something to work, even though it's a pita to work through and won't let you drag and drop as the dicumentation suggests.
Anyway, thanks for posting your solution.

Or use this UDF script this way having the Interactive Editor (IE) open to run step 4
                              1. Make your form. Add a button on the form with the on push event command - change_height(1)
                              2. With the form in view mode, press the button. It collects the parent table name, form name and all the fields on the form into a global variable.
                              3. Place the form in design mode
                              4. Run the following command in the IE - change_height(2)
                              5. Return to the made form, delete the button and save the form. The fields should all now be the size that is on line 51 of the UDF below

                              Code:
                              FUNCTION change_height AS C (part_to_run as n)

                              if part_to_run=2
                              PART_TWO()
                              end
                              end if

'GET THE TABLE FOR THE FORM
