Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

UX in desktop with page variable

I have a ux that has a list filtered on a page variable passed in as an argument
I want to use the ux in desktop which works fine, but how do I pass in the page variable
    Thanks
    Erry

So i have discovered that when you open a UX in desktop you can override settings, these are the existing settings for the argument:-
    DIM arguments[1] as P
    DIM arguments[1].Name as C = "POSTCODE"
    DIM arguments[1].DataType as C = "Character"
    DIM arguments[1].Source as C = "Variable"
    DIM arguments[1].VariableScope as C = "Page Variable"
    DIM arguments[1].VariableName as C = "postcode"
    DIM arguments[1].DefaultValue as C
    DIM arguments[1].ArgumentDescription as C
DIM arguments[1].VariableWithScope as C = "postcode (Page Variable)"
    DIM arguments[1].delete as L
DIM arguments[1].sourcedisplay as C = "Get value from variable"
    DIM arguments[1].variable as C
    DIM arguments[1].runtimeValue as C
    DIM arguments[1].sr as C = "{POSTCODE}="""
    DIM arguments[1].value as C

What of these do i need to change so the argument is no longer a page variable & uses a global variable "vPOSTCODE".
I have tried numerous changes but with no success so far.
    Thanks
    Terry

What you have looks like way too much work.
I'm guessing the arguments start in something like e.rtc.arguments or something on that order.
I think what I'm going to display works, but understand this is absolutely not tested.
this code should make vPOSTCODE a global variable that takes on the value of the NAME argument (I hope I said that right).
      Code:
      dim terrysARGS as sql::arguments
      dim global vPOSTCODE as A
      vPOSTCODE = terrysARGS.find("NAME").data

        vPOSTCODE is already set
it is the argument I am trying to change from the page variable to the value in vPOSTCODE.
alternatively how can I pass the page variable into the ux when opening the ux in desktop
        Thanks

I'm going to use terrysARGS yet, but here goes.
If I'm still missing your goal, I'd suggest a phone call (xxx)xxx-xxxx. I know I'm on the right track.
          Code:
          terrysARGS.set("NAME",vPOSTCODE)

Finally got back to this, when you run a UX in desktop you do so via the following genie:-
            OpenUXcomponent.PNG
As the ux uses a page variable normally, the way i see it is that you need to use Override Settings to change the settings (shown in my previous post) to use the global variable (vPOSTCODE) to set the argument, rather than the page variable.
I tried the suggestion but this does not work.
            Thanks

              Hi Terry,
              Which suggestion doesn't work?
While I'm asking questions, I see you started a new thread yesterday. Is that a different issue than this one ?

Your suggestions previously in this thread, did not work.
my new thread was a separate issue.
                Thanks

Glad to hear the issues are separate.
As for the suggestion not working, that most like means vPOSTCODE does not have the value you expect it to have.
I am willing to help figure this out, but to expedite the process a screen-sharing session would be the best option.
