Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

What to do with a hanging debugger

    Hi Guys
My A5v12 debugger suddenly stopped working.
When starting to trace the code, it freezes.
When debugging the same code with A5V11, everything works fine.
I have un-installed and re-installed Anywhere with the same results.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Peter G

Does it lock up on ALL code, or just this specific code?

If it's just this specific code, could you post it here so we can take a look?

You could also try commenting out all the code except a few lines, then keep uncommenting lines until it freezes again.

It locks up on any code. and when testing it in A5V11 debugger, it traces and all the rest. No problem at all.

      Thanks

Re: What to do with a hanging debugger

If you are testing the same code in V11 and V12, does that mean it's the same application? So this app was upgraded from V11 to V12.

Do you have any other apps - and do they lock up the same way?

Do you have an app that was never in V11 at all? (Maybe create a new app in V12 and try the debugger in there?)

Also, what version of Windows are you running?

Re: What to do with a hanging debugger

The code is exactly the same and it is the same app. A bunch of coding was done on this app after migrating to A5V12 debugging included. It just started hanging all of a sudden.

Maybe Create a video of the problem and send it to Alpha support?

try it on something really simple - and see if it hangs there; if so, send to Alpha support.
The odds are a trillion-to-one that it is a setting on your computer; otherwise, many many many users would be complaining.

Re: What to do with a hanging debugger

This is tracing with no problem in A5V11:
It runs in A5V10 but debugging it makes everything hang and the only way out of it is to kill the process
                Code:
                Debug(1)
                dim SHARED vName as C
                vName = "Joe"
                ui_msg_box("Name is", vName)
I have uninstalled and re-install A5V12 with the same results.

                Thanks

Re: What to do with a hanging debugger

                  Where does it hang, exactly?

Does it hang immediately after the debug(1) or does it hang on the ui_msg_box?

If you remove ui_msg_box, does it still hang?

WHERE is this code: in an ajax callback function? In the oninitialize event?

                    go to the contropanel
create a new script, using xbasic
                    name it test
put this code inside the script

                    debug(1)
                    msgbox("","here1")
                    msgbox("","here2")
                    msgbox("","here3")
                    msgbox("","here4")
                    msgbox("","here5")
                    debug(0)
                    end

                    save it and run it
if it hangs, then you have a problem - most likely a windows setting

                      Hi Martin
It hangs from the word go. See attached image Debugger Error.gif
I tend to agree with you. It looks like it might have something to do with the installation.
But where does one start looking. When I uninstalled A5V12 , I made sure that there is nothing left in the registry after the un-install.

                        run a reg cleaner
then be sure that your virus program excludes the folder containing the app as well as alpha5.exe in its location

not sure - just throwing some stuff on the wall

I would also try it from a completely clean boot.

Do not have anything else running - even turn off your A/V temporarily.

Unload Skype and any other messaging or video recording program.

If it works that way you can start reloading things until it breaks.

You never did mention - what version of Windows are you running this on? What are your system specs?
