Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Odd QRCode behavior

    Odd QRCode behavior

    I am having a heck of a time with the printQRCode() function. Basically I am generating 21 QR codes to scan for a little inventory system. 19 of the QR Codes work great, but 2 of them are exhibiting odd behavior. Actually, through testing, I have noticed that it is the number of characters, and not really the content. Maybe someone else can see if they are getting the same results.

    calcQRCode02 = printQRCode("Light Stone"+crlf(1)+"WS1"+crlf(1)+"Wood Screws - 1""+crlf(1),100)
    calcQRCode15 = printQRCode("Burnished Slate"+crlf(1)+"WS1"+crlf(1)+"Wood Screws - 1""+crlf(1),100)
    calcQRCode20 = printQRCode("Bright Red"+crlf(1)+"WS1"+crlf(1)+"Wood Screws - 1""+crlf(1),100)

    The first line (calcQRCode02) works as expected. The second line (calcQRCode15) adds an extra crlf after "Burnished Slate". The third line (calcQRCode20) adds an extra crlf after "WS1".

    I have found that the words really don't matter. If the first value has 15 characters it inserts the crlf after that value. If it has 10 characters it inserts the crlf after the second value.

    I am using these codes to automatically enter the values in a form. It is working great, with the exception of this odd error.
    I can fix it with code on the save script, but it is just a very weird thing.
    Anyway, if anyone has the time to check it out and see if you get the same thing, or if this is a common thing I don't know about, let me know.

      I will check this out! the code pasted actually is missing the slash in front of the quotes for 1"" I don't know why it didn't paste when I copied from my code. I apologize for that.

      Code:
      calcQRCode02 = printQRCode("Light Stone"+crlf(1)+"WS1"+crlf(1)+"Wood Screws - 1\""+crlf(1),100)
      calcQRCode15 = printQRCode("Burnished Slate"+crlf(1)+"WS1"+crlf(1)+"Wood Screws - 1\""+crlf(1),100)
      calcQRCode20 = printQRCode("Bright Red"+crlf(1)+"WS1"+crlf(1)+"Wood Screws - 1\""+crlf(1),100)

        I tried a different scanner to see if the cheapo one I was using for testing was the culprit. It is still doing the same thing.
        I have included an image of the QR Codes generated by Alpha, the code for each QR Code, and the output that occurs when I scan them.
        Again, I have 19 QR Codes that are working fine, but when I throw a string of 10 or 15 characters in the code it introduces a crlf in different places.
        It's not a deal breaker, just very weird. I don't know if it's a bug, or something I am doing incorrectly.

        Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

          I guess I should have asked what result you were expecting.
          I scanned the left qr code and got “Bright RedWS1Wood Screws - 1" “.

            So you didn't get the CRLF at all? That is weird. You can see the exact output I get, and in the form it works amazingly well, as it puts The Color in the first field, ProductID in the second, and Description in the third. Except for those 2, lol. The added spacing screws it up. If I scan the leftmost code I get:

            Light Stone
            WS1
            Wood Screws - 1"

            I am really confused if you are getting the Bright Red from the left one. I may just fix it in the Save Button I have on the form and call it a day. I think I am over complicating it to try and make it function the way I expect it to.

              sorry about this.
              I was aiming for the left but got the middle using the alpha launch barcode scanner.

              snipping the codes to ensure i got what i wanted produced better results.

              Light StoneWS1Wood Screws - 1"

              Bright RedWS1Wood Screws - 1"

              Burnished SlateWS1Wood Screws - 1"
