Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Bitmap by expression on report

How can I have a report in a desktop application and place 1 of 2 bitmap images on the report based on the value of a field?

    #2
Don't have much detailed information From the report but use a calculated field:

    If(something = something, bitmap1, bitmap2)

or use a conditional object where depending on your equation, bitmap 2 will be shown.

not sure if my reply mage it through...The Bitmap object on the report requires a full filename of the image. Is there a way to use a variable to specify the name? I tried and it wouldnt take it..

It helps a lot to show the code that isn't working as desired.

I appreciate the replies, in this case there isn't any code to share, im just using a Bitmap object on a report. The file name is what I need to change based on the value of a field in the report, Image 1 or Image 2.

This is where GK's response helps.
Using the conditional object, you can have multiple bitmaps, and
the conditions you create determine which one is use.
Example: I do work for several companies.
I use a conditional object to determine which logo to use based on the company the report is for.

Madtowng; this is exactly the purpose of what Im trying to accomplish! That said, In my 25 years working with Alpha (on my own application) I've never used a conditional object and I cant seem to figure out how for this purpose. Could someone describe how I would use a conditional object to select a bitmap based on a field value? IsHG=.F. = Use Logo1, isHG=.T.=Use Logo 2....

Figured it out, sometimes things are so simple we make them difficult!

I use different images on reports extensively. I use the strategy of having the image path in the report set to a single temporary file specific for the report and have coding that copies an images file to that temporary file before running the report. This afford all kind of possibilities like upfront selection of images from a library, selection of images based on field values, etc, and is much more versatile and cleaner than stacking conditional objects.

                        Hi Ted,
It is easy, very easy, just do it the way I described.

Thanks Mike. I know, but Russ may have used a different method.
