Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Statistics, Slopes and Days Since 1900

Im struggling with a statistical SLOPE function.
I have the formula, just cannot get my head around the convoluted logic. Anyone done this?

Excel Dates are actually the number of days since 1900. (put a date in and reformat to numeric to see)
    In Alpha Today - 01/01/1900 is 2 days less than Excel 28/01/2023 - 01/01/1900
Easily fixed by just adding 2 days to the Alpha calc.
    Just sayin'.

    Hi Ted,
My guess is this has something to do with 1900 not being a leap year.
I thought excel dates are from 1901. It's actually the basis for my date functions.
    date() - {01/01/1901} === today() - 01/01/1901 in excel .

As long as we're on the topic of dealing with dates, does anyone
know how to extract date values from a string knowing the date format
could be any of those shown below ?
      Code:
      yyyy Mon dd
      yyyy Mon d
      yyyy.MM.dd
      yyyymmdd

I think my thought about leap year is confirmed if you use March 1, 1900 instead of Jan 1, 1900.

You could well be right Gregg, however it's 2 days different.
I wondered if the first day and last day dates were excluded, making the calculation start at 0, not 1 as in 0/01/1900 and not 01/01/1900

Not sure what you mean with your date extract query. Can you say a bit more?

            Hi Ted,
In the image below, I show a difference of 1 using 1/1/1900 and no difference
if the low date is >= 03/01/1900.
Presuming you do not always use 01/01/1900 as the low date, adding X to
Alpha's HighDate - LowDate will not always produce the desired result unless
it's wrapped in a conditional statement.

For the date extract question, I have sample data below the image.
I found a regex that works for yyyy MMM dd , but it fails if you use march for
            the month using regex101.com .

            Code:
            /(20\d{2})([\. -][jan|feb|mar|apr|may|jun|jul|aug|sep|oct|nov|dec]{3,9})([\. -]\d{2})/gim
            2023-01-29_15-33-09.png

            Code:

Thanks for the update Gregg. This is what my version of Excel shows.

              dataurl053472.png

              dataurl053476.png

The problem is that Excel calculation shows 2 more days over the period. Excel is the SLOPE calculation benchmark I have to use to prove the accuracy of the formula. It is a value I simply have to use.

              In the calculation I need to use which is part of a complex statistical formula, the difference is;

              Today's date * a value - example below

              44956 * 453000 = 20201988000
              44954 * 453000 = 20201082000

              A difference of 906000

Now I don't know if this is actually significant in the grand scheme of things, so more evaluation required.

I guess my point was how significant is 1900 over 1901?

It's a "you have to use it because....." moment.
The client is an avid EXCEL guru and so Microsoft (and Libre Office btw) all go back to 01/01/1900
Not that fussed, but it was something I happened to discover when comparing the Excel results of a Slope to my Alpha efforts. So Alpha +2 works for me.

Like the Irish man said when a chap asked the way to Tipperary, "If I was goint to Tipparary, I wouldn't start from here!"

                  Thanks for posting Gregg.

I prefer libre office, but was trying excel to match with you.
Libre Office gives me 44954 , which for today is the same as Alpha.
Alpha + 2 only works for Jan and Feb 1900.
I believe the difference of 2 instead of one is happening because
that column is not wide enough for the decimal places.

Could be. I didn't check that.
Also the date line between us.
Anyway I got my Slope calculated OK. Within acceptable limits.
