Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    tagname not found when using runtime

    I'm running the following code from within a function to select the correct record to update:

    Code:
    tblstats = table.open("stats_cancel_reasons")
    indx_stats = tblstats.index_primary_put("A_date")
    recfound = tblstats.fetch_find(date())
    This works fine using the developer, but I get a 'tagname not found' error when using the runtime.

    Any idea how I can get this to work in the runtime?

    p.s. Runtime is behaving a little oddly as I can't open the debugger or see the code tab on the control panel. Have uninstalled/reinstalled both developer and runtime in an effort to resolve. Running build 2446/4365.

    Jon,

    1) Is the developer version of the workspace self-contained in a single directory (no external directories or subfolders) ?

    2) is the runtime version mistakenly opening a different version of the workspace? Check path to the tables using the table/sets tab of the AA control panel, while VIEW mode is set to DETAIL.

      Tom,

      1) Yes
      2) No - both developer and runtime accessing the same workspace

        Jon,

        Is the runtime opening the database directly, or using a shadow copy on a local workstation?

        Do the runtime and developer version and build numbers match?

          Tom,

          Runtime and developer both 2446/4365.

          Thought I'd tested this, but both developer and runtime fail when trying to update shadow database :-(

            Beginning to sound like a network issue. Beyond my ability to help further.

              Sounds you may need to re-shadow the database.
              Make a backup of the old shadow first.
              updating the shadow should have nothing to do with developer at all.

                Runtime does NOT allow you access to the Code tab as you have no ability with runtime to modify code. I don't remember if runtime allows you into the debugger.

                  Actually you can import an exported code with runtime.

                  That's one of the reasons it's a good idea to put passwords on the code.

                    Re: tagname not found when using runtime

                    Definitely was possible to get the debugger up in the runtime (I've had customers complain when I've left debugs in by mistake) . Program now just freezes as debugger is active but there's no interface to allow you to step/run whatever else you might want to do.

                    Also don't think this is a network issue, but a shadow database issue.

                    Just did a clean install from bootstrap db and all now appears to be OK. Must have been some corruption on a local file?
