Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    EZTwainx Scanning Problem

For several years, we have been using EZTwainx to scan documents to PDFs. We used modified xDialog code that we obtained from Marcel Kollenar, and it has worked very well in A5 version 10.

Now we are attempting to upgrade to A5 Version 12 and we are receiving the following error when we attempt to scan:

    EZTwain Error in v12.jpg

Has anyone else encountered this scanning problem in version 12? Has anyone implemented scanning of documents in version 12?

    Thanks for any help!

    Re: EZTwainx Scanning Problem

    Hi Dick:

What version of Eztwain are you using? I'm using V1.62b2 which had some features not available in earlier versions. Right now I can't remember what those features were. Also, what scanner are you using? If it worked with V11 it probably should work with V12.

Here's an image of my document scanning app.

    ScanDoc.png

I just tested this with V12 and all the functions seem to be working. However, if I select JPG as the output, the file is not readable. I'm pretty sure that was an issue with this version of Eztwain which I chose to ignore when I originally did the xdialog.

You get the gold star! We were using version 1.56b7. I downloaded and installed version 1.67.4, and it appears to work fine with A5 v12. Here is the download website for others who might have this problem.

          Michael --

After many hours of frustration, I gave up on the ActiveX approach. However, I was able to get the EXTwainx software to work quite well using an Xdialog. I put the code elsewhere on this board, and I think this link will get you there.

My previous message contained a link to a different thread on this board which shows the code where I have used EXTwainX in an xdialog. This xdialog works in Windows7 and Windows8. We have not tested it yet in Windows10. It also works with Alpha 5 versions 10, 11 and 12. As I said previously, I could not get the activeX approach to work.
