Find errors in field rules

Create a table with fields: ID N 16, Name C 16
Give it a name: aa

Design field rules, select field aa->Name and Validation tab.
Select Uniqueness test: Value of expression must be unique
Unique expression: Id+Name

Go to menu Rules: Find errors in field rules ( one error appear).

Open a browse and insert two equal records and it works.

I'm not certain, but if the error went away after a few records were entered, perhaps it's because the table was empty to begin with. I think it would be difficult for Alpha to evaluate the performance of rules when there's no data.

After inserting some distinct records, error continues.

The dialog tells the error is on expression but the expression seems ok.

I can confirm your findings. The message must be a flaw in the find errors routine because the validation rule requires Alpha to build an index and the index persists. If the validation expression was flawed the index would be automatically deleted.

The concatenation of id and name does rely on Alpha's automatic data type conversion to build a numeric plus character result but changing to

str(id)+name

does not clear the error.

It appears your expression is a field that is defined as numeric + a character field.

You need to convert the numeric to a string using STR().

I use an alltrim() around each field, too, in case blank space have impact on the result.

alltrim(str(Id))+alltrim(Name)
