Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I don't know what 2FA is. So, I guess NO. If you think it would help, I'd be happy to enable it, if you'd tell me how.

Also, the latest error I'm getting is:

    ---
Connect to Outgoing (SMTP) Server succeeded.
    ---
Login to Outgoing (SMTP) Server succeeded.
    ---
    Test e-mail send failed:
530-5.7.0 Authentication Required. For more information, go to

Does this make any sense to you ?

Officially , 2FA = 2 Factor Authentication. I refer to it as Too F@#%^ Annoying.
You'll know it's activated if it sends you a code that you need to use to prove you are you.

I can see it's demanding authentication which suggests you are not using a machine password.
This would go a lot quicker if we did a screen-sharing and voice session.

It may not be you, Lar, although the settings are absolutely precise.

I have had all sorts of issues with Gmail in the past and some mail never got to the recipient.

Recently I have had loads of issues logging into Google and I suspect they are messing about with their end of the connections.

        Example:
I tried to log in to my G account on a DT, and the Tablet and 'phone connected instead!

Although a lot of people use Gmail, I really don't like using it. Too invasive.

I don't see it as everyone being screwed, although it does appear that people are going to have to take the time to create an app password for their accounts.

                Oh poop
How about using the Alpha Client only?
It can be automated and then the mail is contained within the application?

I'm guessing all the Alpha email systems uses email_smtp_open() in the background no matter which based upon the setups parameters required. I've looked at the "simple" explanation of OAuth authorization. I don't have enough headache medication to get through the videos and explanation text paragraphs. I'm looking into carrier pigeons next....

Thanks for the video. Just concerned that the password parameter in the Alpha function for email_SMTP_open() won't qualify/interlace with the "app password" the servers are seeking under the new change and this direct email modality without the user manually interfacing with a web browser is completely lost.

I can’t answer for gmail, but it absolutely works with microsoft, and with microsoft you can set the sender to any properly configured alias.

I seem to recall Selwyn addressing this problem at one of our IADN meetings quite some time ago.
I found these notes which I followed. It looks like June of 2022.

                            1. Log into the Gmail address
                            2. Click the dotted square top right
                            3. Click Account.
                            4. Click the Security tab on the left.
                            5. Under ‘Signing into Google’ enable ‘Two step verification’ following the instructions.
                            6. Under ‘Signing into Google’ you should now have the option of ‘App passwords’.
                            7. Click ‘Select app’ and choose ‘Other’, type any name for the password and click ‘Generate’.
                            8. Copy the generated password.
                            9. Paste the password into the appropriate location in your solution
                            Alpha 5 Version 11
AA Build 2999, Build 4269, Current Build
                            DBF's and MySql
Desktop, Web on the Desktop and WEB

We've been using app password with gmail since 2022 (or earlier) with no issues.

Biggest problem is if you use the Alpha email profiles that are stored in the registry these need to be updated on each computer for each user.
Another headache is that with older versions of V12 and before there's no option to choose STARTTLS when creating a profile so you have to edit the setting in the registry.
