Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help with Field Rule

    Hey I need some help with a formula see below

    Start_Date (date type) user added
    Term (Numeric len 3) user added
    End_Date (date type) field rule using addmonths(Start_Date,Term) works fine

    I need help on this Months_left (numeric len 3)

    I know this is simple but i am not very good with xbasic I tried for the calculated field -

    1-addmonths(today(),End_Months) no good

    2- Months(end_months)- months(start_months) not right answers this works because it is converting the date to
    numeric,

    3-Maybe this should not be a field rule but a piece of code that I can run before a report or a posting so it updates the field as of today.

    Example:
    01/01/2015 = startdate
    01/01/2018=enddate

    Thus months left would be 36months field=Months_Left

    Startdate minus Enddate to give months left into a numerical field I then can use that to calculate many many things that have to be calculated, off of that number.

    Any suggestions would be great

    Re: Help with Field Rule

    Has nothing to do with xbasic other than functions. Just an expression.

    Code:
    s = {01/01/2015}
    e = {01/01/2018}
    ? (12*(YEAR(e)-YEAR(s))) + MONTH(e)-MONTH(s) + (IF(DAY(s)>DAY(e),-1,0) )
    = 36
    Borrowed from a previous post. Credit to Govindan Gandhi.

      Re: Help with Field Rule

      OK, so I figured out the following for a field rule and added a new field to run an updatre so the field rule would calculate.
      A bit primitive but works.

      Here is the field rule I used:
      ROUND_DOWN(IF(ISBLANK("Start_Date"),0, (DATE()-END_DATE)/30.4),0)*-1

      SO I have code that sets the date in a field for the date (date() ).

      Next I will search for a command that updates fieldrules?

            Re: Help with Field Rule

            Actually can not use above because there is some bad data in the archived/old records so using this:

            a_tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\customer.dbf")

            DIM a5_operation_order as C
            a5_operation_order = "recno()"
            query.order = a5_operation_order
            DIM a5_operation_filter as C
            a5_operation_filter = "Qbacctnumber > "0""
            query.filter = a5_operation_filter
            query.options = "I"
            query.description = "Temporary Query"
            i_indx = a_tbl.query_create("N")

            update.fields = 1
            update.field1 = "MONTHSLEFTUPDATE"
            update.expr1 = "DATE()"

            a_tbl.update()

            'END
            a_tbl.close()
            END
