Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    help with parse of CRLF list

    I have populated a variable (Var->ImportConsultants) with a CRLF list via a checkbox dialog.
    I want to parse the list into an array...
    below is a copy of my interactive screen:

    ?var->ImportConsultants
    = CDN
    EURO
    PHILMT

    Result = *for_each(Source,"SourceArray[" + *counter() + "] = " + quote(Source),var->ImportConsultants)

    ?Result
    = SourceArray[1] = "CDN"
    SourceArray[2] = "EURO"
    SourceArray[3] = "PHILMT"

    ?SourceArray[1]
    ERROR: Not found
    SourceArray[] not found.

    The 'Result' is not what I want... I am trying to populate the SourceArray[] variable... not create a new CRLF variable.
    How can I do this?

    Why not

    Code:
    importConsultants = remove_blank_lines(ImportConsultants)
    dim sourceArray[0] as c
    SourceArray.initialize(ImportConsultants)
    F.

      Re: help with parse of CRLF list

      Here's a similar 3 liner that when modified might help:
      (Loads the array directly from a table. Very cool and powerful.)

      Code:
      dim shared vp_ProgArray[0] as P 'pre-read program data into array for quick checking against/during points import below.....
      vp_ProgArray.CLEAR() 'resets the array to empy
      vp_ProgArray.initialize_from_table("rewards_tbl","ProgramID = '" + vc_ProgramID + "' .AND. MerchantID = '" + vc_MerchantID + "'","Ryear")
      'Note: First parm is table name, send parm is query filter.
      And since arrays tend to hold different quantities of values which you might need to find without exactly knowing where they are, check this out:
      (I'm using the code below as part of a calculated value on a form. That's why the "session_variables(this.sessionhandle()" is used instead of simply the session variable "vc_Year" as the lookup. ~ Now I'm wondering why/whether I even needed to do that. Performance maybe? It's the only variable vc_Year scoped/used.)

      Code:
      vp_ProgArray[vp_ProgArray.find(val([B]session_variables(this.sessionhandle()).[/B]vc_Year),"Ryear")].award8qual)
      'Note: You have to make sure that the table is initialized with unique values in the Ryear (example above)

        Thanks Finian
        That worked perfectly!

        Thanks Robert... I will put your suggestion in my code library.

          Finian loves his arrays - but when I have a crlf variable, I just parse thru the variable - much quicker than creating and reading an array!!!
          If you have a really long variable - maybe a thousand lines, and you are looping thru the list as I do and doing something each time, it is allegedly faster to use an array, but I have not found it so, myself.

            Thanks Martin... I will keep that in mind (although... at my age, one must be frugal with what one places in one's mind!... Le Chatillier's principle and all that... so... I will add a note to my documentation).
