Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Ghandi:

I see you are in New York, near me. Ever been to B&H photo on 34th Street and 8th? They use what looks like DOS based software for their POS. I mean, it looks like Alpha Four!

I'd be interested in a separate thread with you on EMV and PCI compliance regarding the above mentioned POS content.
why? did you design the software B&H using, if you did and they still staying with that, good for you, in fact you should tell alpha they are making bad move, their best version was and is version 4 and no need to improve and they are going in wrong direction.

what will be point to be involved with you in a separate thread? that you teach me that the desktop is alive and well.
I said that in my first statement. you have your opinion and I have mine. no need to prove to each other.
any comment I make is personal opinion, time will prove me wrong or right.

incidentally, I love lp music and listen to it every weekend.

I think the future is streaming apps for user. No install needed from user. All you need is a link to run a program so web and native is same from users point of view. Google and Apple has already taken first steps. Here is article from Googles web of apps.

I retract any interest in having a thread conversation with anyone about PCI compliance and the recent EMV stipulations required in POS.

Re: Is Alpha Anywhere 4 the end of the road for the desktop ?

            Thanks Ken. That was informative.

Right now, we need offline capabilities for web apps which usually means a database like SQLite on out phone or tablet when we get out of connection range to the internet. Over the next 5 or so years that will no longer be a need due to the phones signal strength growing. There are very few places now where there is no connection. Those areas are shrinking almost daily.

I(for one) have stopped worrying about those connections now. I build the apps so they are useable on phones, tablets, laptops and desktops and no longer concern myself with connections. It is working quite well like that. A whole lot less expense and worry on my part. If someone complains of a problem, I simply refer them to their provider.

This app/site works well on desktop and down. A few more adjustments and it will be better. http://mypwds.com
