Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Mouse "over" causing selections in an xdialog

I'm working on (thought I was done with) an xdialog that was initially created from a browse object, then added to. It's a viewer for administrative use in a company that purchases metals and keeps images of all purchases. The attachments show test data and images.

When I click to select a ticket, its detail lines show in the browse. When I click on a line in the browse, the corresponding image shows below. So far so good. (See the first image below.) If I left click on another line in the browse, its image shows OK. However, when I move the mouse after that click, not pressing any button, the detail lines in the browse are selected. (See the second image below.) Not only that, but the xdialog events immediately become unpredictable and, if I keep clicking, the most likely result is that the xdialog will freeze. In some instances clicking in empty space above the browse allows it to recover, but clicking back in the browse causes the same behavior. There can be 20 or more detail lines so this is really crippling.

I see something called "ui_dlg_control_from_pos" that seems to be used in conjunction with mouse control but before I start messing with that I thought I'd see if anyone else has had this experience and would have any ideas.

    Thanks

I have had it happen in an xd that displays a list but no image. It could be a memory problem from working in design mode. See if it happens after A5 is closed and reopened. I now have 8gb of ram and it still occurs on occasion.

Closing and re-opening has no benefit. Its consistent. It starts with the second click. Now that you mention it, I think I've seen it happen in a list also. But I don't think it prevented me from using the list. Mmmm, I'm going to see if there's anything I can do with ui_control_from_pos.

I was testing some of my xd browses and while I have not been able to replicate this problem - I did find another one. I put my script into a function as C with the same name as the browse and it erred on trying to put data type of P into a C variable. I hadn't finished it yet but I could have sworn it was working. At least you made me find it! Thanks.

        lol

In the meantime, I would go back to the original xml for just the browse and retest that - before you added the extras. It may be something with the queries. For me it is ALWAYS the query that is the problem... if you put the query filter directly in the test browse definition it may reveal itself.

Well, I needed to demo to the client this afternoon and, before starting up the xdialog I was going through a preamble about "anomalous behavior" except that, when I ran the xd, it ran perfectly. It took me a couple of minutes for me to realize that I was demoing on Win 7 machines. I run Windows 10 here at home and their server is Windows 2012 R2. So this behavior happens on Windows 10 and Windows 2012 R2 but not Win 7. Grrrrrr.....

Well it does seem as though Win 10 is doing an awful lot of interference. I know I spent a good week just tweaking all its settings when I first got it. My retest was on Win 10... and the xd's (developed in v11 but run in v12) ran fine.
