Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Xdialog {Title=}

    I can't seem to get this command to work with a variable. Does anyone know how I might get it to display the contents of a variable?
    I would like to have a short name for the dlg_title but display a longer name from a calculation in the xd title bar.

    The documentation for this command {title} doesn't address this possibility.

    Eg, if {can_exit=close} creates an event where if a_dlg_button = "close", etc.; then I am thinking a similar event might be created where this title could be constructed(?) So far that's my best idea...perhaps using a __placeholder__ and a strtran() function?

    Tim Kiebert: where are you? ;)

    Re: Xdialog {Title=}

    Robin,

    We maintain a Global variable of our agency name in a variable called (remarkably) "agency".

    When I create an xdialog, I just put the variable into the "title" spot on the dialog.

    Code:
    varC_result3 = ui_dlg_box(agency,<<%dlg%
    This way, if we need to go to a specific field in the dialog from the code, we just use the variable without having to spell the whole thing out.

    Code:
    	ui_dlg_ctl_goto(agency,"vOLD")
    I was just looking at the help, and I don't see any {Title=} command. Maybe I'm just getting old...

    Even trying to put it into an existing xdialog, I didn't get any auto complete for {Title=.

      I followed your link to {Title} but all I find is....

      It is possible to dynamically change the title of an Xdialog. First, we use indirection to title the dialog box "Fred".
      title_var_name = "title_var" + stritran(time(), ":", "_")
      eval(title_var_name) = "Fred"
      dlg_title = "@=" + title_var_name
      ui_modeless_dlg_box(dlg_title, "Hello {text=50,2}", "1=1")

      Then we use the EVAL()and UI_MODELESS_DLG_REFRESH()functions to rename it.

      eval(title_var_name) = "George"
      ui_modeless_dlg_refresh("@=" + title_var_name)

      You cannot close the dialog with either "Fred" or "George". You must use "@=" + title_var_name.

      ui_modeless_dlg_close("@=" + title_var_name)
      There can be only one.

        Re: Xdialog {Title=}

        Stan - Where did you find that? Here is what I see:

        {Title} Command

        The {title} command lets you set the title of a dialog independently of the value set in ui_dlg_box(), or ui_modeless_dlg_box() command.

        ui_dlg_box("Title",<<%dlg%
        {title=Title set by 'Title' command}
        {lf};
        Name: [.60name];
        %dlg%)
        Edit: Come to think of it I have seen the code you're showing before - but it is to dynamically change the actual dialog title, not show a different caption - which is what the {Title=} is for that I was trying to use. However that "@="+var trick might work here too...

          Got it!
          Borrowed from another thread:

          dlg_title = "cp_info"
          vTitle = file.filename_parse(a5.Get_Name(),"n") +" : Tables, Indexes & Fields"

          in the dialog body:
          {title=__vTitle__}

          Before you call the dlg_box:
          dlg_body = strtran(dlg_body,"__vTitle__",vTitle)

          ui_modeless_dlg_box(dlg_title,dlg_body,dlg_code)

          I swear I already tried that...
