Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: alphabet button search gone

    Have had exactly the same issue both in V10 and V12 -seems to happen if I open the form from another form with a button but not if I open it directly from the control panel. Can you confirm if you have the same situation.

        in my app this form (Machine) opens from a button on our Main (opening) form. It worked in v10.5 and we have made NO changes to the app other than using the v12 runtime. Just another problem when a user tries to upgrade from 10.5 to 12.

            Re: alphabet button search gone

            It appears that some of the runtimes resulted in some of the supercontrols NOT working. I downloaded the latest patch dated jan11_2017 and like magic, I can see the alphabet buttons again. Problem fixed by AlphaSoftware. Thanks group.

            So if you have Alpha Anywhere, version 12.4.3.1 Build 3962 & system addins Build 4772 time to install patches & fix this problem IF you use this feature in your desktop apps.

              The solution in Stan's link worked for me, but it is good to know there is a patch and that the desktop is not being ignored completely...as I near my renewal date.

                Yes, I agree 100% as almost our total user base is desktop.....

                I need to complement the Alpha support as they corrected BUG in the runtime very fast once I brought it up. My NY wish was that Alpha would NOT abandon their ROOTS (desktop) totally as they move into the mobile arena.

                  Re: alphabet button search gone

                  They may have fixed this in the Jan 2017 release, but its broken again in 4.3.2 - even when opening the form filtered. In my case, I put the supercontrol inside a conditional object and set the field to use as <current>. However some searches are not A-Z so my condition is supposed to hide the SC in that case. The OnInit has it set so it should show. What I get instead is the wallpaper form bleeding thru the form where the conditional object is. If you click on the area the SC appears but does not render completely , in which case if you click a button to change the search then all is well from then on.

                  The old multi-state button behaved much better!

                  Edit: Ok, so I discovered that if the focus can be taken off the form then brought back, the display corrects itself. So after I use my UDF to call the form from the Menu toolbar, I added minimize & restore after it - with hardly a flicker...

                  vw_frm_1st("MembDetail") 'my UDF to open the form on the first record
                  :membdetail.minimize()
                  xbasic_wait_for_idle(.1)
                  :membdetail.restore()

                  I think the SC may be writing something to the registry which is causing a timing issue. Next I'll try it without any filter in the OnInit event - brb...

                  Hah! that did it. A little modifying to my UDF, and I will have a function I can use for any form that opens with a SC.

                    UDF to open SC forms:

                    Code:
                    FUNCTION SC_Frm AS L(layoutname as C,idx_tag = "" as c)
                    'DESCRIPTION: Open form with optional specified index on first record
                    	DIM frm as P
                    	frm = obj(layoutname)
                    	IF .not. is_object(frm) THEN
                    		frm = :form.load(layoutname)
                    	end if
                    	if idx_tag <> "" then
                    	    frm.Index_Set(idx_tag)
                    	end if
                    	frm.minimize()
                    	frm.show()
                    	frm.restore()
                            :home.activate() 'this is my wallpaper form
                    	frm.activate()
                    	frm.fetch_first()
                    	SC_frm=.t.
                    END FUNCTION
