Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Tif to PDF function

I was trying this on Windows Server 2008 R2 and it does not work. Ran it on a Win 7 laptop and it works fine. I thought it was a file sharing/permission issue, so I shared the server folder and file with everyone and gave everyone full control in security and it still does not work. Does anyone have any thoughts?

      Re: Tif to PDF function

      Their website says

      ImageMagick runs on Windows 10 (x86 & x64), Windows 8 (x86 & x64), Windows 7 (x86 & x64), Windows Server 2012, Windows XP (x86) with Service Pack 3, Windows Vista (x86 & x64) with Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 (x86 & x64) with Service Pack 2 (verify MSXML6 is present), Windows Server 2003 R2 (x86 & x64), Windows Server 2008 (x86 & x64) with Service Pack 2, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64)
The amount of memory can be an important factor, especially if you intend to work on large images. A minimum of 512 MB of RAM is recommended, but the more RAM the better. Although ImageMagick runs well on a single core computer, it automagically runs in parallel on multi-core systems reducing run times considerably.
so it seems it should work.

      You can try

      presult = a5_runimagemagiccommand("C:\art\imc_test.tif","C:\art\imc_test.bmp","mogrify -resize 1500x256 *.bmp")

and then check the presult pointer variable to see if you get an error message.

        Re: Tif to PDF function

In the fwiw category I, like Mike, was excited when I read about this function since I do a fair amount of work with images. However I could not get it to give me expected results either in Windows 7 or on Windows 10. I had already written a function to shrink the size of JPG's (using Alpha's bitmap_to_jpeg function) and the results with it are what I expected. Using the A5 Imagemagik function gave me results that made no sense so I've stuck with my original code. It's entirely possible that I didn't get all the parameters right, but I did give it a good shot and didn't get the expected results.

And what function(s) did you use to "shrink" the image size? The only one I know is A5_IMAGE_TRANSFORM() and though it is a great function, I'd like to have the internal code of that function to get directly to a new shrunken image without all the user interaction.

a5_scale_imageFile() might be worth a look.

              Re: Tif to PDF function

The imagemagic functionality seems to be handled by convert.exe in the A5 program directory. You might want to ensure that it is present in your server directory and test with different properties set. (compatibility mode, privilege level)

                Hi Stan,
Thank you for that, but it didn't pan out. I did change compatability to Server 2008 and added the exe as an exception, but still get the security warning to popup questing actions of an unregistered exe file, but allowing the execution didn't bring joy.

                Geoff,
That looks promising, I'll check it out, thanks.

                  Re: Tif to PDF function

The Bitmap_to_Jpeg() function takes a "Quality" parameter, "The JPEG quality, 100 (default) maximum quality, 0 smallest size" which, while it doesn't have the bells and whistles of ImageMagik, is perfect for what I need. We save up to a thousand images per day and by tweaking the resolution of the camera and using this function we take 150-200K images down to the 40-60K range with very little visible deterioration of quality.

                    Hi Finian,
Ummmm..... I this now. My dyslexia was focusing on Jpeg_to_bitmap(). Thank you.
